Venezuela intends to pitch the cryptocurrency Petro to OPEC as a "digital currency for oil"

Sell petroleum to the world with Petro-token?

Another PDVSA tweet quotes Mr. Quevedo's video interview and states the following;

“Petro will become the digital currency for global oil trades, and we intend to present this to OPEC. Petro is one of the internationalization measures for the currency.”

According to the Cuban state news agency Prensa Latina, Venezuela has been planning since the first quarter of 2019 to start selling the country's oil on the market using tokens.

According to reports, Quevedo believes this move will help improve the country’s economy and ensure growth and prosperity. Companies purchasing Venezuelan oil products are said to be required to join the country’s cryptocurrency platform.

Additionally, Quevedo reportedly urged airlines and shipping companies to register their digital wallets and transact with Petro. Xinhua News Agency of China reports the following;

“We will sell aviation fuel and ship fuel with Petro in the future. Petro is Venezuela’s currency.”
