Is EA operation possible on a smartphone?!
Geko here.
Among those who have reached this column,
there may be people saying,
"This is my first time with an automated trading system (EA)~"
So I thought I’d write a series of articles with little-known EA tips that are understandable even for beginners.
Among FX traders, there may be cases where they trade only with a smartphone.
Lately, FX brokers seem to be putting effort into developing smartphone-only trading apps, and the chart display and technical analysis usability have improved dramatically.
However, if you want to use indicators other than those provided by the broker, you still need to use something compatible with MT4 or MT5, which are widely used.
EA also can operate only on MT4 or MT5, so you cannot use the smartphone apps provided by brokers.
Then, if you only have a smartphone, can you operate EA?
If you think about it, the answer is that it’s actually possible.
That is by using something called a VPS (Virtual Private Server).
I’ll skip the somewhat technical explanation of VPS, but essentially it means creating a virtual space where MT4 or MT5 can run.
In practice, you don’t build it yourself; if you purchase that environment (usually with a monthly contract), you can just install MT4 or MT5 and use it.
When you search for "VPS," you’ll find various results.
I’m not here to recommend one, but according to a site specializing in FX VPS,
with 2GB of memory, the recommended number of MT4s to run is "3."
You can log in to the VPS from your smartphone, and as long as you don’t close MT4 with the EA running, even if you log out, you stay connected to the Internet, so EA operation basically never stops.
*Even with VPS, there are OS (in this case Windows) updates, and regular reboots are necessary.
From my perspective, it feels easier to prepare a PC, but it’s not impossible with just a smartphone, which was the point of this discussion.
