Contracting with over 200 institutions worldwide
Mr. Rao revealed that Ripple plans to open an office in Dubai by the end of the year and introduced the Internet of Value. He described Ripple's goals in the Middle East as follows;
“Initially, we are focused on cross-border payments. Because I believe that is where the friction is the greatest. In this world, in this region, there are significant constraints not only on economies supporting intra-regional activity but also on businesses dealing with countries outside the region.”
Mr. Rao said that Ripple has contracts with “many in the Middle East” and “over 200 institutions worldwide.” He noted that among the company’s clients are Saudi Arabia’s largest Islamic bank Al Rajhi and Kuwait Finance House (KFH), calling them the fastest-growing markets:
“Today, if you want to send money from the UAE, in some regions of the world it may incur costs and move slowly. For example, South Asia has abandoned the use of SWIFT, built its own technology to connect to these corridors, and enabled rapid and low-cost large remittances for these customers.”
