Hello, this is Hayakawa from GogoJungle. Today we welcome as a special guest Mr. Ponta, who originally worked as an office employee. He is now active as a full-time trader. First of all, Mr. Ponta, thank you for joining us.

First, I’d like to ask about your background as a trader. You were originally an office worker, but could you tell us how you became interested in trading?

Yes, I originally worked as an office worker, but due to work stress and concerns about the future, I began to wonder “Is this okay?” In that context, FX as a side gig became my entry point.

I see. So you were involved in trading even during your employee days. What kind of trading style did you have?

I mainly started with discretionary FX trading. I tried binary options and automated trading as well, but initially I focused on discretionary trading. On weekdays after work, I would look at the charts around 9 PM and trade.

You were trading every night after work. You must have put in a lot of effort; how did you spend your weekends and days off?

During weekends when FX markets are closed, I used backtesting software to analyze past data. Even when markets weren't moving, I used the time to accumulate data and sharpen my trading skills.

I see. On Japanese holidays when the market is open, did you face the charts from morning to night?

Yes, on weekdays when holidays were off I mostly watched charts all day. I believed such steady practice was essential to becoming a full-time trader, so I did it thoroughly.

When transitioning from employee to full-time trader, did you set any goals?

Yes, my goal was to consistently earn more than my salary as an employee. To achieve that, if I could earn profits exceeding my main job’s salary for six consecutive months through trading, it would give me the confidence to go independent.

Exceeding the main salary for six months straight would be a huge source of confidence, wouldn’t it? With that level of thorough testing and results, you decided to go independent, correct?

Currently you also share information about investing on YouTube and other platforms. Could you explain the purpose and intent of that activity?

Personally, when I started trading, I made many detours. Through that experience, I want to provide information that helps those starting trading or beginners learn efficiently. In FX in particular, it’s important to learn the basics and techniques properly, so I want to share that information.

There’s a strong following on YouTube. I sense you believe more Japanese office workers should engage in investing; what are your thoughts on that?

Yes. In North America and Europe, many office workers are investing. In Japan, investing isn’t as common yet. I think more Japanese office workers should start investing, and I want to help create opportunities for that.
