VISA CEO: "Cryptocurrencies are not a big threat. But if needed, we will support them."
Now more of a commodity than a payment method
Mr. Al Kelly said that cryptocurrency as an asset class is not a threat to fiat currencies in the short to medium term. However, if crypto adoption accelerates in the coming years, Visa will incorporate the demand for the asset class.
“In order for us to be comfortable as a company, we think there needs to be a certain market like fiat money. If the flow moves in that direction, we will move in that direction. We want to remain at the center of payment flows around the world, regardless of what means or currencies are used. So if we need to move in that direction, we will. But for now, it is more of a commodity than a payment method.”
