NY stock market close; Nikkei 225 futures after-hours
The New York Stock Exchange ended with mixed gains and losses for the major indices, but the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached new intraday highs for a second day.
The U.S. long-term yield (10-year) fell below 4% (bond prices rose), and buying focused on large-cap stocks as traders continued to look for guidance on next year's policy rate.
Meanwhile, public equities and mid-to-small cap indexes declined, with selling sentiment growing ahead of the Christmas holidays after the weekend; the number of rising stocks was surpassed by falling stocks.
On a weekly basis, all indices rose except for the VIX index.On a weekly basis, the minus was only for the VIX index.
