What are the similarities between calligraphy and trading!? by Tomoaki Kuramoto [First Post]
Nice to meet you!
I have become a prop trader at Oval Prime FX.
My name is Chimei Kuramoto (くらもと ちめい).
From now on, I will be posting articles and videos at Oval Prime FX, so please take care of me!
Who is Chimei Kuramoto?
I think that’s what everyone is wondering, so I’ll introduce myself!
I first encountered investing
in the later years of elementary school.
There were foreign movies on TV,
and in one scene, a stockbroker at a securities company was moving a huge sum of money with just a phone call.

Seeing that,
“Wow, that’s cool! I want to be someone who moves a lot of money when I grow up!!!”
That thought started it all.
Looking back now,I was a quite strange elementary school kid. lol
At that time I felt a strong admiration for the profession of trading, but
being in elementary school, I couldn’t do anything,
and as I went through middle school, high school, and college, my dream of becoming a trader faded.
However, as smartphones started to spread, and I upgraded from a flip phone to a smartphone.
That longing from that day came back to life.
“Let’s start FX with a smartphone! Let’s realize the dream from childhood!”
That was December 2012.
Yes, at a time when Abenomics was about to begin!
However, as a complete beginner who had just started FX, I ended up in a short position on USD/JPY. lol
I went strongly against the trend and incurred a unrealized loss,
and I even had to add margin (;ω;)
If you’re an ordinary person, you’d quit trading here, but
I didn’t give up.
Because I had a strong longing to be a trader.
That’s when I learned the importance of stop-loss,
and at the same time“It’s not enough with my own power alone. I should study more.”I thought,
bought various study materials, tried indicators and system trading as well,
and after many twists and turns, I’ve come to where I am today.
And I have one more talent.
It is calligraphy.
I have continued it for more than 20 years since first grade,
and I even hold a teacher’s license.

Why am I suddenly talking about calligraphy?
Because there is an unexpected commonality between calligraphy and trading.
The commonality lies in artistic elements
such as balance of characters, thickness of strokes, size of characters, and how to use the margins of the paper.
These calligraphy elements can all be applied to chart construction and movement.
Balance of characters = beauty of the chart
Thickness of strokes = liquidity
Size of characters = volatility
Use of paper margins = price range, timeframes
Also, writing beautiful characters is not the only thing in calligraphy.
When beautiful or delicate characters are followed by dynamic ones, they move people’s hearts the most!
I believe this can be applied to market psychology changes caused by chart breakouts.
There are many other points of contact and ways of thinking that can be applied to trading,
so I hope to post and share gradually from now on,
Thank you very much for your continued support of Chimei Kuramoto m(_ _)m
