NYSE Closing Prices – Nikkei Average Futures and After-hours Trading

The weekend session for the NY stock market saw the three major indices all higher, but with scant catalysts and a lack of clear direction, ending the day with an absence of a clear trend..

From the opening, buying pressure started; Apple, which had declined by more than 6% on a weekly basis, turned up, sparking a broad mood of stock repurchase across the market.

On the other hand, large-cap tech stocks showed mixed responses, pressured by year-end selling demand, and Nvidia and Tesla Motors did not perform well.

In the NYSE market, Boeing continued to decline, unable to shake off lingering concerns about component procurement, with the decline exceeding the previous day’s percentage.

Additionally, small- and mid-cap indices (Russell 2000, S&P 400) were negative, and the Semiconductor SOX index faded as well.

Nikkei futures and after-hours trading finished 90 yen higher than the settlement value on the 8th, supported by a rise in the USD/JPY (dollar strength).

High: 32,565 yen (0:32 on the 9th), Low: 32,255 yen (18:07 on the 8th).

The week-over-week gains were seen in public stock indices and the VIX, indicating a shift to risk-on rather than risk-off posture (see below).

The week-over-week losses were in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other major indices, with the transport index down 3.96%, and the SOX semiconductor index down 3.17%, among others.
