Trading Methods That Work in Ranges
Hello to all readers! The year 2017 is already moving toward summer. We’re curious how this summer’s market will unfold, but as we approach the end of the first half of the year, how many traders were able to anticipate mid-term trends that appear abruptly on the charts and ride those waves? That’s what I feel.
For example, the USD/JPY moved strongly toward yen appreciation in March–April, but after the French presidential election it briefly turned yen weaker, then, in response to issues like Trump’s impeachment concerns and North Korea missile concerns, fell again.
In daily terms, it can look like a large range, yet the market behaves like a roller coaster. It feels like riding the world’s longest Flying Dinosaur at USJ. When you can ride the trend in such a market, your mood lifts, but I also receive inquiries from those who couldn’t ride it.
As I’ve conveyed in previous installments, in trending markets I advocate following the trend, and in range-bound markets I advocate counter-trend trading, and I do not recommend blindly counter-trending during large trends. However, trading with a short-term, decisive mindset is also a viable approach. Importantly, set targets at solid price levels.
So, in what situations can this method be most effective? This is a trading method focused on short-term trading, so keep in mind to use it as an alternative when you cannot discern the larger trend.
