NYSE close, Nikkei futures, after-hours trading

The weekend on the NY stock market was mixed, with early gains before a three-day weekend followed by selling to cover after-hours trading.

Although openings rose (Dow rebounded),bond prices fell sharply during trading hours (yields rose), weigh on sentiment, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq slid into negative territory.

Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded, with related names such as Caterpillar and Chevron rising as resource prices increased, and U.S. chemical stocks notably higher.

Nikkei futures after-hours are up 60 yen from the previous settlement, and they are above the daily chart’s Ichimoku cloud top.

Compared with the previous weekend, gains were seen in Nikkei futures after-hours, three major indices, and the Semiconductor SOX index (see below).

Compared with the previous weekend, losses were seen in public stock indices and the VIX index. Instead of risk aversion, risk-taking stance was more clearly evident.

The high was 32,770 yen (2nd at 4:58), the low was 32,605 yen (2nd at 22:49).
