Close of the NY stock market - Nikkei stock average futures and after-hours trading

Weekend trade in the NY stock market ended with the transport sector index continuing its decline, but overall finished higher.

At the international economic symposium hosted by the Kansas City Fed, Fed Chair Powell's remarks did not deviate significantly from prior content, and no new keywords were introduced for Jackson Hole.

There was no fresh news to guide trading; demand outweighed supply as the close approached, and while the gains and losses by index varied, the volatility subsided by morning.

Among individual names, Marvel Technology, Alta Beauty, and Nordstrom posted soft moves after earnings, but there was buying interest in Johnson & Johnson and McDonald's.

In semiconductors, Nvidia moved lower while Taiwan's TSMC, Advanced Micro Devices, and Intel rose, keeping the SOX index positive.

Nikkei futures and after-hours trading closed 220 yen higher than the August 25 settlement; the daily chart and the Ichimoku conversion line were above, but breaking through the 5-day moving average was carried over to next week.

Compared with last weekend, the gains are in the Nikkei futures and after-hours trading, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 (see below).

Compared with last weekend, the declines are in the Dow Jones industrial average, Dow transports, Russell 2000, VIX index, etc. Cyclical stocks and small-cap stocks saw notable selling.
