NYSE Closing Prices - Nikkei futures and after-hours trading

Highs and lows were mixed; while the three major indices finished lower, the Dow Transports, S&P 400 (mid-cap), and Russell 2000 rose on the session.

The opening was mixed, but buying renewed as the employment statistics (number of employed) fell short of market expectations.

Nevertheless, amid the tug-of-war, once the momentum of buying faded, the softer-than-expected average hourly earnings in the employment report was cited as a factor, and the three major indices sank into negative territory.

Only the Dow Transports rose on a weekly basis.

Nikkei futures and after-hours trading also tried to rebound to 32,665 yen but stalled in line with the moves of the US market, ending the week with a 50-yen decline from the settlement value on the 7th.
