▼ What are the machines suitable for cryptocurrency mining? ▼
Yesterdaysince last year the cryptocurrency market has heated up, and major companies such as SBI, DMM, GMO, etc. have entered the mining investment business
along with that, but apart from the major players, what kind of machines should ordinary companies or individuals purchase to mine?
Currently, mining machines can be broadly divided into three types.
First, they are broadly categorized into ASIC and graphics card (GPU) types, and the GPU type is further divided by manufacturers into two major groups: AMD RX series and NVIDIA GTX series, each with its own characteristics.
1. ASIC
ASIC refers to an integrated circuit custom-made specifically for mining.
Equipment developed by the leading Bitcoin miner Bitmain for its own large-scale mining farms is also spread in the market, with models such as Antminer L3+ and S9 being representative.
In competition with Bitmain, GMO has developed the popular new product miner B2, which also falls into this type.
The advantage of ASIC is that it can mine very efficiently, but there are many drawbacks.
ASICs are basicallydeveloped by Bitmainand used in-house; distribution starts when there is no need, so
・Because it can only mine Bitcoin (BTC), if that currency falls, mining becomes unprofitable.
・High power consumption.
・Loud operating noise.
・If Bitcoin can no longer be mined, you cannot switch to other currencies, so there is no resale value at all.
Therefore, you should avoid use outside your own developed hardware.
<グラフィックボード(GPU)>
GPU refers to a processor that processes calculations needed to display 3D graphics in place of the CPU,
commonly called a graphics board (graphics card).
Although mainly used for PC gaming, they are versatile and can be applied to mining as well.
2. AMD RX series GPUs
RX470, RX570, RX Vega, and other RX series from AMD.
They are not ideal for gaming, but they are good for video playback and have low power consumption and heat, making mining efficient, which has drawn attention from miners.
The drawback is that they can mine Ethereum, but their performance for other algorithms/cryptocurrencies is low, so if Ethereum ASICs are developed, it would be devastating.
3. NVIDIA GTX series GPUs
GeForce GTX 1060, 1070, 1080, and other GTX series are mainstream for 3D PC gaming.
They have mining performance for various mining algorithms beyond Bitcoin, offering high versatility and high resale value.
They can mine many different currencies, but what is mined is collected as Bitcoin (BTC).
In other words, when investing in mining, there is no sudden explosive profit, but it is the lowest-risk option.
Since it is a long-term investment, prioritizing stability over short-term explosive gains is natural.
For non-major players who actually mine at home or in their own facilities,
considering the number of cryptocurrencies they can support, mining efficiency, electrical efficiency, price, and resale value,
the GTX-series graphics boards are the mining machines that are currently most suitable.
When evaluating mining machines, I recommend paying careful attention to this.
