What is the number of bitcoins issued
Total Bitcoin Issuance
Bitcoin is scheduled to finish issuing in 2140 with21 million coins, and after that,no new issuance is planned by the system.
By fixing the total issuance and the issuance rate, inflation is prevented.
To put it simply,it's the same mechanism as gold.
In the past, as with the Gold Rush, gold was mined in great abundance.
In an era when gold could be mined a lot, its scarcity value did not rise, and the value of gold was low.
However, since gold cannot be extracted indefinitely worldwide and the total amount of gold buried around the world is fixed, the amount of gold that can be mined gradually decreases.
When that happens, the scarcity value of gold rises and its price becomes high.
Bitcoin is similarly issued in large amounts at the start, but toward 2140 the issuance becomes progressively smaller.
Please look at the figure below. This graph shows the number of bitcoins issued (planned to be issued) over the years.
From this, you can see that Bitcoin gradually tightens its issuance.
As of 2018, about 80% had already been issued.
Around 2020, about 90% is planned to be issued.
This is themechanism by which Bitcoin'sscarcityincreases over time.

In this way,the issuance halves approximately every 4 years.
This moment when the Bitcoinissuance halvesis referred to as thehalving.
Generally at halving, the price tends to rise tenfold.
This is because scarcity increases.
So,around the Olympic year 2020, halving occurred.
It will be interesting to see how the price moves!
Next time, we will discuss mining that is not for new issuance—the mining for existing coins.
