If the economy gets better, will stock prices rise? , What I learned from manga in 2022
Good evening, this is Kaero Yamashita.
November's earnings announcements have mostly settled, but
everyone, were you able to trade well?
I thought there wouldn’t be much material left this year, but
additional news has come out.
A large-scale restructuring at GAFA.
※GAFA
Refers to the major US IT companies Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon.
Primarily, Facebook (Meta) and Amazon have begun reorganization and large-scale layoffs.
In Japan, Twitter Japan is the topic of conversation.
Elon Musk has acquired Twitter and is implementing large-scale layoffs not only in Japan but worldwide.
Based on these situations, there are growing public concerns about the US economy,
and some money has started to flow into Japanese stocks as well,
which I think is one of the reasons for the recent rise in domestic stock prices.
That said, what I feel most is that American companies act quickly and boldly.
If Japanese companies can steer with that same speed and dynamism,
Japan’s economy might improve a little.
(Japan has labor regulations that make this difficult under current laws.)
Now, this week's YouTube updates include:
・Will stock prices rise if the economy improves?
・What I learned from manga in 2022
I discussed these two points.
□■ Tuesday Update: Will stock prices rise if the economy improves? □■
Looking at the current domestic situation in Japan,
there are few people who think, “The economy is doing well!”
An economist answered the question, “What does it mean for the economy to be good?”
The reply was,
“If you work a normal 9:00–17:00 schedule and your pay increases,
that is a sign of a good economy.”
That seems quite apt, doesn’t it?
And as someone who teaches stock investing,
I have met and talked with many people who try to forecast the economy to buy stocks,
and my conclusion is,
“Using the economy as a basis for stock investing is not good.”
That is what I believe.
If you’d like to know why, I explain it as well, so
please take a look.

Now, one more:
□■ Thursday Update: What I Learned from Manga in 2022 □■
Whether it’s manga, novels, business books, TV or radio, I believe there’s always something to learn.
More important than which medium you learn from is whether you can accept the learning, in my view.
That being the case,
I read manga often to gain insights, and this time I’m sharing what I learned from manga this year.
In the last five years, I’ve felt big changes in the manga industry,
and there seems to be a rapid increase in academically oriented manga.
Titles like Cells at Work and Doctor Stone exemplify this.
The manga industry also seems to be focusing on what readers can gain, not just storytelling; I respect that.
I’ve tried to tie this theme to investing, so
please take a look here.
