Last week's New York gold price (near-term) continued to rise, closing at 1,854.6 dollars, up 37.5 dollars from the previous week, a bullish candlestick that almost fully engulfed the previous week's bearish candle, erasing the loss. Technically, it resembles a bullish reversal signal like a key reversal up. However, the dollar strength and rising interest rates that had been continuing since February 2, ahead of the employment statistics week, were just unwinding due to profit-taking, and did not indicate a change in the favorable environment for gold to rise.
On the dollar index chart, it weakened after stalling around the 105 level and entering a correction. The 10-year Treasury yield, having topped 4%, saw a sense of achievement, and by the weekend yields fell below 4%.
I view both moves as corrections after roughly a month of gains, and expect this activity to end within about 3–8 days. It is highly likely to be completed before this week’s employment statistics release.
