Among many moving averages, in an uptrend,

there are certain fixed-width lines thatfunction effectively as a support line during pullbacks.

Also, in a downtrend,

there are fixed-width lines that function effectively as a resistance line during retracements.

In other words, if in an uptrend the price breaks below the support line, a downtrend begins, and

if in a downtrend it breaks above without being pushed back by the resistance line, an uptrend begins.

support and resistance lines become turning lines.

This concept also applies to indicators.
