Tobashi Investment Daily Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, Takagi Komei, who is also a master of cycle analysis, writes a weekly report on the outlook for the gold market.

Last weekend saw a second intervention selling the dollar and buying yen, and the USD/JPY rate fell from a high of 151.94 by nearly six yen. As the dollar weakened, spot gold rose by about $40 from a low, but Tokyo gold (August contract) fell nearly 200 yen due to the strong yen.
Moreover, the US 10-year Treasury yield has been rising sharply since October. On the 21st, it reached 4.34%, a high not seen since November 2007, briefly touching that level.
From the long-term interest rate perspective used in this column, it is expected to ease temporarily by year-end, but now there are voices saying, “(the US economy is) approaching a recession, so long-term rates will fall in the future.”
