“A column currently published on Toyo Keizai ONLINE” How many years will it take to become able to win?
Good morning, this is Matsushita.
Yesterday, we received an inquiry by telephone
from a customer, and spoke with them
over the phone.
That person, about eight years ago,
had read the stock reports that I provide as an investment advisor,
and wished to participate again
and expressed that desire.
When I spoke with them on the phone,
eight years ago they had just started investing in stocks,
and what was written in the reports
and what was explained at seminars
did not resonate much with them,
but over the eight years of experience,
they came to think, "I see," a lot of things.
They said so.
What I teach is, from my 17 years of
experience, the most important and fundamental things
in investing.
Not something that changes with time,
but a solid core in the world of investment
that remains true.
All of it can be understood from the first year,
and there is no guarantee that profits will increase rapidly.
Theories and knowledge also become embedded
through actual experience.
In schools and seminars,
we often receive questions like
"How many years do I need to study to win?"
There isn’t a fixed answer,
but especially for beginner investors,
I tell them, "First, study properly for one year."
and
"Then maintain funds for three years and continue investing."
and continue.
This means to take it slowly and thoroughly.
Learn cycle theory, and after 17 years of watching the market,
to experience major market upswings and downswings
takes about five years,
I understand.
In that sense, only after five years will you experience
crashes or surges.
In January of this year, the Dow Jones Average reached a record high,
and it moved in ways no one had ever experienced.
Similarly, the Nikkei Stock Average
reached a 26-year high,
forming prices never experienced in 26 years.
In that way, continuing to invest means
you will pass through days you have never experienced before.
So every day is a learning day.
Therefore, every day is a study,
some people feel exhausted when they hear "Study every day," but
there is joy in learning every day.
People feel a certain刺激 from learning something new.
Learning every day in investing is
not a hardship,
but something enjoyable, please know that.
Above all, the more you learn,
the more you can profit.
The greatest advantage of investing lies here.
Unlike other sports or physical activities,
you can become stronger and wiser even when you are 70 or 80 years old.
If you think that way, everyday investing may feel lighter, doesn’t it?
Today is the best version of yourself.
So learn from today’s market with that in mind.
If you do, profits will continue to rise.
