Trend Surfer EA Type II Weekend Exit Function Effectiveness

At that time, the Weekend Exit feature had already been implemented, but the parameter settings from before the version upgrade were carried over, leaving the Weekend Exit feature turned off.
As a result, after the outcome of the French presidential election, the price gap opened widely and caused a loss of 155.5 pips.
If the upgrade to Ver1.10 (March 11) had been done and the Weekend Exit feature had been turned on, since the entry was at 23:00, this position itself could have been avoided, preventing a large loss.
Incidentally, the second largest loss was 44.3 pips, so you can understand how significant this one loss was.
By the way, the maximum profit from a single trade was 168.4 pips.
Afterward, there were several months with no notable gaps at the start of the week.
The Trend Surfer EA series added a trailing stop feature in a version upgrade on August 26, 2017. At this time, the Weekend Exit feature was also turned on.
Since then, the Weekend Exit feature has worked effectively on two occasions.
First instance, the trade result of September 1, 2017.

At this time, due to the Weekend Exit feature, the position was closed at 23:00 on Friday (5:00 AM Saturday Japan time).
There was a small loss of 2.2 pips, but if the week had been allowed to cross over, a gap-down could have resulted in a loss of about 75 pips.
The second instance is the trade of September 8, 2017.

This position also exited at 23:00 on Friday (5:00 AM Saturday Japan time) with a profit of 95.3 pips.
Whether this exit was caused by the Weekend Exit feature or by technical exit conditions is a subtle market situation, but if the technical conditions had not been met and the position had been a weekend hold, the profit would have ended at about 50 pips due to a gap up. It is a win, but the difference of over 40 pips shows the effectiveness of not holding weekend positions.
As described above, in 1-hour chart operation, the Weekend Exit feature significantly mitigates the negative impact of the opening gap. It is presumed that the reason why Monday opening gaps often act negatively is due to the price retracement before the NY close on Friday, which technically can be interpreted as a new reverse trend starting.
Occasionally, a big win may occur with weekend-hold positions, but reducing losses improves total profit, so the current settings are likely optimal.
