Business decline
Nikkei Stock Average fell back and closed lower.
In the morning, although the three major indices on the prior week's US stock market reached new highs, concerns over a renewed spread of COVID-19 infections centered in Tokyo weighed on sentiment, leading to selling.
There was intermittent selling in stock index futures, and the index briefly fell to 28,581 yen (down 202 yen from the prior week’s close).
SoftBank Group <9984> [currently 7,391 yen, -421 yen] and Fast Retailing <9983> [currently 81,500 yen, -1,500 yen] dragged the index lower.
In the afternoon, after a weak start, there were moments of restraint in the decline, but the rebound was very limited, with upward movement heavy.
The Mothers Index also fell.
The focus shifted to recently listed IPO stocks.
