“If you can become capable of waiting, you’ll win” – a column currently published on Toyo Keizai Online
Good morning, this is Matsushita.
At the investment school held last Sunday,
one of the investors who participated in the stock school
muttered,
“I just can’t help but buy and sell without waiting.”
I hear this kind of opinion and worry quite often.
I think many people nod and say, “Yeah, that’s true.”
It may sound like a trivial worry, but for investing, this is actually a fairly fatal flaw.
Investing is about “waiting.”
Waiting, waiting, waiting,
and waiting some more—investing is that kind of repetition.
Specifically, what are we waiting for?
1. Wait for the environment that could be a chance to form
↓
2. Wait for the entry signal to appear
↓
3. Wait for the point at which to cut losses or take profit to arrive
In this way, all of investing actions are based on waiting.
As long as you continue investing,
this act is waiting.
Among the realities of investing,
the earlier worry of “I can’t wait”
actually makes you realize that investing cannot be sustained.
“If you can wait, you will win.”
It might be better to rephrase it as
“Investing is simply waiting.”
Realize that this is a prerequisite, and
become a patient investor.
This is the lifeblood of an investor.
