【Key Points】
1. On December 16 (Wednesday), in the Nichiyou Keizai Shimbun春号, a significant upward revision to the current and next period's results caused the company’s stock price to move, breaking the high of 489 yen reached on May 21 and returning to a high of 541 yen. The recent rapid upward pace has slowed, but the earnings recovery has only just begun.
2. On December 21 (Monday), we visited the company’s Shibuya head office for an interview. From the interview, it became clear that the pachinko/pachislot industry is heavily affected by regulations, and that “until 2019, regulatory changes had a substantial impact on earnings.” Going forward, as旧基準機 (old standard machines) are removed and migration to新基準 (new standard) machines progresses, the business environment is likely to improve compared with the past three years.
3. The key to the company's earnings improvement lies in how it expands the powerful IP of “Ultraman.” The key to expanding Ultraman is the upcoming Summer 2021 film “Shin Ultraman.” Before this work is released, the latest film of Shin Evangelion, with which the company has deep connections, will be released in theaters. If this project is successful, the general director Hideaki Anno’s involvement in Shin Ultraman makes its potential for success extremely high.
