【Fujitomi】Nikkei Stock Average recovers to 20,000, first time in 1 year 9 months at a high
The Nikkei average closed higher with a sharp gain, up 317.25 yen (1.60%) to 20,177.28 yen. It reached its highest level in about one year and nine months since August 19, 2015. The round 20,000 level was recovered for the first time since December 1, 2015. On the other hand, next week is also the major SQ (Special Quirat Index) calculation week, so volatility led by futures may be feared. Also, there is a possibility of nervous movement following the testimony of the then FBI Director on the 8th, but given today’s market tone, a major collapse is not expected.
In the Tokyo stock market, amid a weakening yen trend, domestic pension fund inflows and buying by overseas institutions such as hedge funds were observed, fueling a risk-on mood as in the previous day. With the US May employment data to be released tonight, the latter half of the session saw slightly stalling gains.
TOPIX also rose, closing up 26.06 points (1.64%) at 1,612.20, its highest level in about one year and nine months since August 20, 2015. The turnover on the First Section of the TSE was 3.2232 trillion yen, with 2.31512 billion shares traded. Both figures were the largest since May 8. The number of advancing issues on the First Section was 1,509, declining 420, and 88 were unchanged.
Nikkei futures also extended gains and surpassed the 20,000 level. Since it exceeded the high on December 1, 2015 (20,040 yen), attention will be on how the market will attempt to approach the August 11, 2015 high (20,940 yen) in the future.
