【Fujitomi】Nikkei average continues to decline; North Korea risk a concern
The Nikkei Stock Average ended lower, finishing at 19,196.74 yen, down 55.13 yen (0.29%) from the previous day. With Golden Week approaching, selling by domestic and international investors to adjust positions was observed.
In mid-morning, after reports that U.S. President Trump said that he would like to resolve North Korea through diplomacy but that it would be very difficult and that there is a possibility of a major conflict, selling pressure appeared. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi commented on the Korean peninsula situation, recognizing that circumstances could deteriorate and become uncontrollable. Meanwhile, stocks with strong earnings were predominantly bought, helping to support the index.
The TOPIX also fell, closing down 4.87 points (0.32%) at 1,531.80. The trading value on the TSE First Section was 2.546 trillion yen, with a trading volume of 1.99653 billion shares. The number of declining issues on the TSE First Section was 1,236, advancing 697, and 83 unchanged.
The June-term Nikkei futures fell for the first time in seven days, ending 90 yen lower at 19,200. After forming a bearish candlestick for the eighth time, it failed to hold above the upper line of the Ichimoku Cloud (19,220), ending inside the cloud, signaling a pause in the upward trend. However, since it did not fall below the lower cloud (19,155) or the 5-day moving average (19,160), there remains some expectations. If there are no emergencies and the yen weakens, the high of the 27th (19,290) will be in focus, with a move toward the 19,500 threshold anticipated.
