Stock prices around the holidays - Mr. Hiroshi Koya

During the holidays, the movement has been rather lackluster.

In last night's after-hours trading, Nikkei futures briefly rose to the 20,000 yen level.
We believe this was driven by position-adjustment activity ahead of the holidays, along with the Dow's roughly 378-point gain shortly after the open.
We believe this is due to that movement.

Looking at the Nikkei's price action, since climbing back above 19,000 on 4/9 and then spending three weeks consolidating around the 19,000 level, this seems to be a major factor.
Thus, the consolidation around 19,000 appears to be a significant factor.

過去５年で連休明けの営業日にプラスであったのは１７年のみで、１７年は連休中もプラスであったからという単純な図式に見えます。
ほかの４年は連休明けには前営業日比マイナスで引けています。昨年は連休終盤のトランプ大統領の対中制裁発言で、株価は崩れ、連休明けは６日連続安でほぼ1,200円下げました。




東京時間の朝９時には１０６円台半ばという３/１７以来の円高にもかかわらず、CMEの日経平均先物は２万円手前で取引されています。
連休中は静観すべきと考えますが、対ユーロでも円高が進んでおり、円の独歩高的な動きです。さらに円高が進むようであれば、２万円挑戦が遠のくことになります。


久しぶりに為替相場への目配りも必要です。
