How to find an excellent EA from sources other than popular rankings
What metrics do you consider when buying an EA?
Many people reference popularity rankings as well as word-of-mouth or reviews on social media.
GogoJungle offers a "detailed search" feature for system trades, and this time we will guide you on how to find excellent EAs based on your goals.
From the System Trade top page, click Detailed Search.
(This might be a bit hard to see in gray...)
By the way, if you enter any word into the search box, it will filter to results whose system-trade titles contain the entered text.
This is the filter. If you know the EA's title, that's fine, but if you want to search by performance, leave it blank and press "Search with detailed criteria".
By default, the search results are sorted by earnings for all periods.
Because this search covers the performance of all system trades, including stocks, stock-related strategies tend to appear at the top.
That's where the detailed search filtering comes in. Use the right-hand bar to select the detailed conditions.
▼ Detailed Search (it's long vertically, so I laid it out horizontally)
If you want to limit to MT4 EAs only, check MetaTrader4 under "Platform".
Now let's search for EAs by theme.
◆ Looking for a well-performing EA in the last 3 months
Check the measurement period "3 months".
The results are displayed in order of earnings. You can view a ranking of how much you have earned in the last three months.
Note that even if you specify "3 months", forward testing results of less than 3 months may be included.
It will be sorted by earnings for the filter "up to 3 months".
Also, in the top bar you can sort by Profit Factor, profitability, risk-reward, etc.
If you sort by Profit Factor, you’ll see EAs with PF = 100% win rate.
A 100% win rate could also be due to averaging down across multiple positions or deep stop-loss settings, so if you want to exclude averaging-down strategies, add a filter for "Maximum number of positions." The maximum number of positions can be filtered up to five.
▼ 3 months, max positions 3, sorted by Profit Factor
◆ Looking for an EA strong in "trend following" over the past year
There is a thing called "Investment Style" in detailed search, and this is set by the seller.
Since the market is currently in a trending phase, I want to look for EAs that seem strong in "trend following".
▼ Select trend following under Investment Style
▼ 12 months, by earnings.
If you base on earnings, EAs trading with large lots forward will naturally rank high. In such cases, also look at the "return on investment" to see how much was earned relative to the recommended margin.
▼ Sort by ROI
An EA that ranks highly in both earnings and ROI would likely have quite good performance!
◆ Want to limit currency pairs
If you want to operate a portfolio spread across currency pairs, you can also search by narrowing the currency pairs.
Nowadays, AUD-related and CAD-related pairs are yielding stable profits, so check currency pairs that include AUD and CAD.
▼ 12-month ROI ranking related to AUD and CAD. (Maximum positions up to 5)
As you can see, when you use Detailed Search to find an EA of interest, please also check the backtest and calculate metrics such as max drawdown, max SL, and expected annual return to decide whether to deploy.
Please do not rely solely on the current popularity rankings—use Detailed Search to find a good EA that fits your investment style!
