Nikkei Stock Average from Wikipedia
The Nikkei Stock Average (日経平均株価, Nippon heikin kabuka; English: Nikkei stock average) is one of Japan's representative stock market indices.
It is also simply called the Nikkei or Nikkei 225 (にっけいにひゃくにじゅうご, Nippon-ichi-ni-ju-go).
Currently, it targets 225 stocks out of about 2,000 listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Along with the TOPIX, it is widely used as a Japanese stock price index.
As the most well-known stock index, it has been used not only as a private economic indicator but also as part of Japan's government economic statistics.
