Spring Capital defines 29 industries, out of 33 sectors on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, excluding four financial sectors (banking, securities, insurance, and other financials) as general business companies, and publishes this overall ranking of all listed companies quarterly (see bottom＊).

Excluded from consideration are 1) companies whose most recent four quarters of annual securities reports have not all been published, 2) companies whose equity capital was zero or negative in any quarter during the same period, 3) companies that use IFRS but cannot reasonably derive comparable numbers when restated to Japanese standards, and 4) companies that do not comply with the Tokyo Stock Exchange's "45-day rule" and whose results were not published by Spring Capital's calculation period. The current number of ranking-target companies after excluding these is 3,238, and we present one company per day from the top 300.
