Beatrice 07, which shone as the 2015 Outstanding Strategy of the year for Invast Securities' System Trade 24, is a popular EA used by many customers as well. Today, we have interviewed its developerTokyo system traderThe interview location was the Mercedes Cafe in Midtown near Roppongi. It was a glamorous and lively setting with car enthusiasts, industry folks working on something on a MacBook, and local housewives.
ReporterTo begin with, what is the meaning of the name Beatrice?Tokyo system traderIt’s from anime. I always find it difficult to name things, so I pick names based on impulse or something that catches my eye. There isn’t any particularly deep meaning.ReporterBefore asking about the logic, what was the trade that Tokyo system trader laid its foundation on?Tokyo system traderI have invested in various things—stocks, futures, FX, real estate. Of course, I’ve also done discretionary FX trading, so I know quite a bit about technical aspects. Discretion requires watching charts all day long, which isn’t good for the body. Therefore, as a programmer, I thought it would be easier to do it automatically, so now I use EA in FX and trade Nikkei 225 futures.
ReporterWhat do you think is the reason Beatrice succeeded?Tokyo system traderBeatrice uses a basic perceptron AI, but what made it successful was using multiple indicators and being clever in how they were combined, and then spending an enormous amount of time testing that combination and its settings. Creating an EA can easily lead to curve-fitting, but I tested and set it up repeatedly to avoid that, which I believe is why it performed well.ReporterDo you have a message for Beatrice 07 users and general investors?Tokyo system traderInvestment is about deep study. Professionals who work in the financial industry who continue to study stay ahead, and individual investors are the same. Including me, I believe we must keep learning.

Winning the Outstanding Strategy of the Year award means it is the most outstanding strategy among strategies gathered by Tradency, an Israeli company, not only in Japan but worldwide. It demonstrates the potential of Japan’s engineers, who have strong mathematical and AI knowledge. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the foundation of this success comes from the abilities of Japanese engineers.
