Why I couldn't win even after changing the method; the place where I lost was always the same
Switching to a new method, you may have noticed that after the first few wins you drift back to the same way of losing, right? Why is it that you still can’t win even after changing your method?
You read several books on methods, swapped indicators, and still the rate at which your account decreases doesn’t change.
You’ll often hear the question, “Why can’t I win even after changing my method?”
Good evening!
This is Masashi^^
This time, I’ll talk about rearranging losses by where you touched, not by the name of the method.
It’s something like a check of what you’re carrying before you start looking for a method.
Even if the method changes, if the places you’re losing stay the same, the results are unlikely to change.
? The third method also showed the same places of loss
I also changed methods many times in the past.
When you keep losing with the first one, you think there must be a better way, so you look for the next one.
With the second one, for about the first week, you’re doing well, right?
Then when you switch to the third method, I suddenly stopped and rechecked my records.
Although the entry methods were all different, the loss screen looked almost identical (;'∀')
On higher timeframes, it was exactly in the middle between the upper and lower walls.
Moreover, in the early evening when price movement is thin.
Even though the method name had changed, the places I touched hadn’t.
? What I was changing was the explanation of the entry, but I kept the habit of where I touched the chart unchanged.
? If you erase the method name, the shape of the losses becomes visible
When you review your records, many people think in terms of each method separately.
You’d say, This method has a low win rate, or that other method seems more suitable.
But when you separate by method, the common points of loss scatter into different boxes.
The same loss that appeared once in each of the three methods will look like only one occurrence in any given box.
So, I’ll erase all the method names at once for a moment.
What remains are only where you touched and roughly what time it was.
Stop dividing boxes by method; divide them by location.
? Why do losses return to the same places even if you change the method?
The reason is that what a method teaches you is usually about the form of entries.
Which entry to take given a certain setup, where to place stop loss—that part.
On the other hand, when you open the chart and around what price your hands move is outside the method.
The time you finish work and open the screen, the speed of price movement that makes you want to trade.
These kinds of habits often come along even if you switch methods.
So even with a new method, when you reach the spot with the habit, you tend to lose in the same way again.
In my case, one reason I wasn’t winning while searching for a method was probably here.
✅ How to use the rearrangement of losses
All you need is a sheet of paper and a pen.
Rewrite the last ten losses by focusing on only two things next time.
・ How high up the chart you were looking and roughly where you touched
・ Approximately what time it was
After you’ve written them, count how many times the same location and time pair appeared.
The trick is to count by frequency, not by the amount of money.
Give the most frequent combination a one-line name.
Like: 【Early evening / touched in the middle between the upper-wall and lower-wall】
Example of writing: 【Location: middle of the upper time frame / Time: early evening / Count: four times】
Once named, you’ll notice that shape more easily when you come to that place again!
? The points to look at are the places you touched, not the reasons you entered
While rearranging, you’ll be inclined to read back the reasons you entered.
You remember, at that time there was some basis for it.
But the reasons for entering differ in wording from method to method, making comparison hard.
Locations, however, can be compared with the same standard no matter which method you used to enter.
Huh? You might think locations are vague.
Actually, to be more precise, you only need roughly which upper or lower wall you were closer to when viewed on the higher timeframe.
If you divide too finely, you’ll scatter into many little boxes again.
The reason differs by method. Locations can be compared with the same gauge.
⚠ Changing the method isn’t inherently bad
By now you might feel like I’m saying not to change your method at all.
That’s not the point.
If a method doesn’t fit your life schedule at all, there are times when you should switch.
For example, you can only look at charts at night but you rely on a method designed around morning activity.
But before you switch, please rearrange your losses by location at least once.
If the losses in the same place stand out, even when you move to a new method, that habit may still follow you.
? People who benefit from GOLD’s special remedy, and those who don’t
GOLD Special Remedy is a teaching material summarizing where I look, why I wait, and where I stop when trading GOLD.
It also includes how to distinguish markets you want to avoid.
The losses you rearrange and the places you find will give you material to think about why those places are painful.
It’s about cross-referencing your own loss patterns with the concepts of places covered in the material.
However, simply reading the material won’t automatically erase your loss spots.
The process of rearranging and the moment you stop at that place next time remain with you.
The tool doesn’t do the thinking for you, and the same applies here.
If you want to solve by adding another method, this material isn’t for you.
If you want to rethink from your current loss shape, you can use it as a material for comparison.
? Summary: Before switching, rearrange losses by location
When you can’t win after changing methods, the places you touch may not have changed.
Erase the method names and rewrite losses only by location and time.
Count by frequency, not by money amounts.
If you give the most frequent combination a one-line name, it becomes a candidate for your current loss pattern.
Whether you continue rearranging just with your own records or organize by location using GOLD Special Remedy,
I hope you choose whichever suits you best at this moment.
First, rewrite your most recent ten losses by removing the method names.
You’ll likely be surprised at how many times the same screen appears^^
