Reasons why you should not verify the signature immediately after launching MT4: Past candles arriving later
I am Yohaku, creating MT4/MT5 indicators and handy tools. What I make is decided from the complaints that appear in GogGogGen reviews and questions.
While verifying my own tools, I encountered an unexpected misjudgment. A signal that should be determined by confirmed candles only (no repaint) was judged by the tool as “repainting.” The cause was not the signal itself, but the state right after MT4 started.
First, the conclusion
- When MT4 starts, it receives past candles that were closed a little later than the moment of startup.
- Therefore, if you begin repaint detection immediately after startup, there are times when candles that arrive later are counted as “drawn later or disappeared.”
- The remedy is to wait for a while after startup (until the history is complete) before checking.
What happened
On October 13, 2026, while checking with my demo account MT4 and GOLD (XAUUSD). The signal from my homemade tool, four seconds after startup, judged as “the past arrows are redrawn.” However, the signal was one that should draw arrows only on confirmed candles, with no repainting.
From the records, the cause became clear. After starting MT4, the number of GOLD candles was 2,053, but eight seconds after startup it had increased to 3,429. Past candles that were closed were arriving after startup.
Why misjudgment happens
The repaint detection works like this: at the moment I start monitoring, it keeps a record of all the past arrows. As candles progress, it rereads the past and compares it with the record. If any arrows disappear, move, or appear later, it counts as “repaint.”
However, right after startup, there are candles that have not yet arrived. At the time of recording, those candles did not have arrows, but later the candles and arrows arrived together. Then, arrows that were actually there from the beginning are seen as “drawn later” or “the past was redrawn.”
The signals themselves are not at fault. The cause is that counting began before the chart history had assembled.
