[BB's Mechanism II] A breakout found on the 15-minute chart is triggered by comparing it with the 1-hour chart
BB Watch's developer “Namikoro” presents the second part of the three-part series.
This time, we target the 4-hour wave and use a pair of 1-hour and 15-minute charts to confirm the basis for entries. The 4-hour wave is formed by the price movements within the 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. When the price moves in the desired direction and the BB expands in the pair, we use that expansion as the basis for entering.
This combination of timeframes is just one example. If you’re scalping and aiming for the 15-minute wave, you can use the pair synchronization expansion of the 5-minute and 1-minute charts to confirm. Choose the wave’s timeframe and the pair used for entries to fit your own method.
First, decide the moment to target on the chosen timeframes. Such as ranges breaks or the corrective wave after a trend has weakened. When price reaches that moment, wait for the expansion of the paired charts. With this order, it becomes clear why you’re looking at the pair.
BB Watch allows you to compare the width and changes of BB for the selected timeframe. This time, we’ll use the 1-hour and 15-minute charts, tracing from the moment they enter the 4-hour wave to the moment of holding and the subsequent decision.
Decide where to wait before looking at the two legs
From here, this is a hypothetical decision example aiming for a breakout above the 4-hour range. First, identify the range’s upper bound and the resistance beyond it. This helps decide in advance from where you want to capture an upward wave and how much room there is above that wave.
When price reaches the range’s upper bound, look at the 1-hour and 15-minute charts lined up in BB Watch. If price moves beyond the upper bound and both legs show expansion, this expansion serves as the basis for entering into the anticipated uptrend of the 4-hour wave.
Before buying, confirm that price holds above the breakout level. Compare the distance to the next resistance and the distance to the point where you would abandon your bullish view. Then consider a quantity that stays within your loss limit.
We regard a state where both the 1-hour and 15-minute charts show expansion as a Pair Synchronization. Even if the 15-minute chart expands after breaking the upper bound, if the 1-hour chart remains expanded or does not, the pair’s conditions are not yet met. Stay wary of false breakouts returning to the range after the breakout, and refrain from chasing momentum in the near term.
Wait to see whether the 1-hour chart also expands and whether price can stay above the upper bound. If it returns to the range, skip the entry and confirm the pair again when trying the upside next.
The same order applies when targeting a corrective wave after a trend has broken. Decide the direction of the wave you want on the 4-hour chart, and where you will think about entering. Use the 1-hour and 15-minute expansion that accompanies price movement in that direction as your entry basis.
Decide the entry position and the point to abandon buys together
Whether to enter on breakout or wait for a pullback should follow your own trading rules. If waiting for a pullback, check whether the pullback stops near the breakout level. When price again tests higher, use the 1-hour and 15-minute expansions as the basis for entry.
Conversely, if price returns to the original range and fails to recover resistance, reassess the reason for buying “above the breakout level.” Even if the 1-hour timeframe still shows a wide range, confirm separately whether price meets your buy criteria.
Decide in advance how much price movement you will tolerate and at what level you will abandon your bullish view, along with your loss limit. If price has already risen significantly and the remaining distance to that level is large, you may choose to wait for a pullback or skip it.
We continue to monitor the pair after entering. When price approaches the next resistance or one leg shifts to consolidation, review whether price can still make a new high. The signals used for the entry can also be used to decide whether to maintain the position.
In live charts, confirm changes on the daily and 4-hour charts
We’ll look at how combining timeframes works in BTC/USD as of August 19, 2026. On Kraken’s daily chart, after a decline from May to late June, price retraced, and the June 15 high of 67,263.5 dollars remained above.
From 12:00 to 16:00 on August 19, the 4-hour chart closed above that high at 68,539.7 dollars. The BB width expanded by about 82.9% from the previous candle. At this point, even the latest confirmed daily candle from August 18 had a BB width roughly 3.3% wider than the day before.
We confirmed two aspects: a breakout of resistance seen on the higher time frame, and expansion of the daily and 4-hour BB widths. This is the moment when those two can be confirmed together.
4-hour chart from 12:00 to 16:00 on August 19, 2026. Close 68,539.7 dollars, BB upper 66,511.4 / lower 61,818.9 dollars. Ended above the June 15 high of 67,263.5 dollars.

In this example, the numbers were verified on the daily and 4-hour charts. This can be used to view situations where you aim for a 4-hour wave following a breakout of a retracement high. The earlier procedure using the 1-hour and 15-minute charts is for confirming entry bases in such situations. It does not reproduce the pair’s expansion and pullback trading from that time.
Aligning comparison baselines makes changes easier to read
Even with the same 20-period BB, the 15-minute chart spans 20 bars for 5 hours, while the 1-hour chart spans 20 bars for 20 hours. In markets with trading gaps, calendar time does not align. Since both are calculating the same price over different lengths, you should not count them as two separate pieces of evidence; instead, observe how far changes extend across time scales.
When price moves beyond resistance, you add a price that deviates from the prior average. As a result, if the shorter and longer bars both widen, both BB widths expand. By looking at time-frame pairs, you can verify changes not only in short-term movements but also in longer-term price distribution.
When treating both expansions as “synchronous,” align the comparison points and criteria. BB Watch provides three comparisons:
・Compared to the previous observation: a comparison with the value obtained on the same forming bar
・Compared to the last confirmed bar: a comparison between the current value and the previously confirmed bar
・Between confirmed bars: a comparison between the immediately previous confirmed bar and the one before it
You can also consider entries using the changes forming in progress. In that case, manage the possibility that figures may change later. Whether to wait for confirmation should follow your own trading rules.
Note that even if expansion is visible on both sides, it does not necessarily mean expansion started at the same time. At the moment of activation you may not know the start time or which leg moved first.
Be able to compare quickly when you reach the target area
Select waves and pairs that fit your method, and wait for the pair’s expansion in that moment. If price movement in the direction you’re targeting overlaps with the pair’s expansion, use it as the entry basis. After entering, manage in conjunction with the breakout price and the next resistance.
In this example, “if we break here, we want to capture the 4-hour upwave.” Align that with BB Watch by lining up the 1-hour and 15-minute charts. Compare the moving pair in real time and verify whether your prepared entry conditions are met.
Rather than rushing on after price has moved, think about entries in the waiting area. If you’d like a screen for that, please see the product page for BB Watch’s display and usage instructions.

About sources and data
The horizontal dotted line in the diagram is a crosshair. It is not the resistance line drawn on the chart. The subsequent bars to the right of the current bar and the current value are not included in the judgment at that time.
The actual data are from TradingView’s KRAKEN:BTCUSD historical chart. The time is UTC, price is USD, BB is 20-period, SMA, closing price, and upper/lower 2σ. The width change rate is an approximate comparison of the upper and lower bands to the immediate preceding bar and is not a measure of price rise or profit rate. The confirmed value of the 12:00 bar on August 19 is information available after 16:00.
