Golden Guardian, increased the boundary watched to cover 3 days [Verification]
Serial Yoko and Kenji's GOLD EA Mastery Notebook Part 11
Hello, this is Yoko.
At the end of the last installment, I promised to explain how to increase daily entries to three times to extend profits. This is that installment.
This time Kenji ran five backtests from day 1 to day 5Five testsin succession. The report for the 5-day version was a file of 18MB, which was a bit of a struggle just to open. The results arrived before the food got cold, but whether it cooled down is up to your imagination.
First, here is the conclusion
・If you increase the target orders tolast 3 business daysthe number of trades becomesabout 2.3 times, and the total profit and loss becomesabout 1.9 timesmore
・As a trade-off, the profit factor (PF) drops from5.85 → 4.67and the maximum drawdown (DD) becomesabout 1.4 timeslarger
・The more days you add, the more profit increases, but the rate of increase diminishes gradually. The efficiency of profit to DD is best at 3 daysas the result
・Howeverthis is not a "one-position operation."The initial setting remains as before, 1 day
First, the rewording of “up to 3 times”
Previously, for clarity, I wrote “up to 3 entries per day,” but the actual mechanism is slightly different. Precisely, it is this:
Initial setting (1 day)
On buy stop orders at the high of the previous business day and sell stop orders at the low.
If set to 3 days
For the most recentthree business dayseach high and low, place stop orders. For both buy and sell, up to three orders each.
In other words, it is not about “limiting the number of times to 3.”It is about "extending the monitoring boundary by three business days."The setting name isInp_LevelDaysand you can choose from 1–5 days. At the same time, the maximum number of positions you can hold (Inp_MaxPositions) remains at the initial setting of 4.
The actual number of entries per day varies. In the 3-day backtest, of the 1,979 trading days, about 47% had only 1 entry, about 30% had 2 entries, about 16% had 3 entries, and about 7% had 4 or more entries. The most on a single day was 6 entries.
Compared 1 day and 3 days under the same conditions
The verification conditions are the same as last time. Overseas broker real tick data (July 2014–September 2026), initial margin 1 million yen, fixed lot 0.50, leaving the v1.10 initial settings as is, changing only the target number of days. The 1-day column shows the same results as the previous table.
| 1 day Initial setting |
3 days | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade count | 1,625 | 3,661 | about 2.3 times |
| Win rate | 86.5% | 85.3% | −1.2 pt |
| PF | 5.85 | 4.67 | about 20% lower |
| Average profit per trade | 6,070 yen | 5,113 yen | about 16% decrease |
| Maximum consecutive losses | 4 | 5 | 1 more |
| Max DD (balance) | 75,662 yen | 104,780 yen | about 1.4 times |
| Recovery factor | 119.3 | 177.0 | about 1.5 times |
| Total profit/loss | 9,864,312 yen | 18,719,852 yen | about 1.9 times |
※The average profit per trade is total profit/loss divided by the number of trades. The recovery factor is total profit/loss divided by the maximum DD; the higher, the more profit relative to DD.
With more trades, total profit nearly doubles. Meanwhile, the quality per trade drops a little.PF falls, and the average profit per trade drops by about 16%. Increasing the monitored boundary causes lagging and weaker breakouts to be captured compared to the previous day’s high and low.
And DD increases to about 1.4 times. Since the increase in profits (about 1.9 times) is larger, the efficiency after accounting for DD (recovery factor) actually goes up.
So, how many days are just right
Kenji:“Not only 3 days; I also ran 2 days, 4 days, and 5 days. I wanted to know whether more is always better or if there is a sweet spot.”
| 1 day Initial setting |
2 days | 3 days | 4 days | 5 days | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trade count | 1,625 | 2,755 | 3,661 | 4,378 | 5,025 |
| PF | 5.85 | 5.03 | 4.67 | 4.23 | 4.09 |
| Average profit per trade | 6,070 yen | 5,351 yen | 5,113 yen | 4,708 yen | 4,553 yen |
| Max DD (balance) | 75,662 yen | 91,979 yen | 104,780 yen | 120,964 yen | 142,657 yen |
| Recovery Factor |
119.3 | 158.6 | 177.0 | 169.0 | 156.9 |
| Total profit/loss | 9,860,000 yen | 14,740,000 yen | 18,720,000 yen | 20,610,000 yen | 22,880,000 yen |
What becomes clear are three things:
① Total profit increases as days increase, but the rate of growth diminishes overall. From 1 to 2 days, about 4.9 million yen more; from 2 to 3 days, about 4.0 million yen more, while from 3 to 4 days about 1.9 million yen, and from 4 to 5 days about 2.3 million yen.
② The quality per trade and PF decline as days increase. As trades increase, the feel of each trade becomes thinner.
③ Recovery factor is highest at 3 days and then declines.Even if you add 4 or 5 days, the rate of profit growth is less than the growth of DD.
Furthermore, we looked at risk in a balanced way. If we adjust lots so that DD matches the 1-day case, what happens? Reducing the lot size reduces both profit and DD by the same proportion. This is a rough rule of thumb based on that relationship.
| 1 day | 2 days | 3 days | 4 days | 5 days | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lotto to match DD | 0.50 | about 0.41 | about 0.36 | about 0.31 | about 0.27 |
| Total profit/loss at that time | about 9,860,000 yen | about 12,130,000 yen | about 13,520,000 yen | about 12,890,000 yen | about 12,140,000 yen |
※The fixed-lot profit and loss is calculated on the assumption that it scales with lot size. In reality, due to minimum lot increments and margin requirements, the numbers won’t match exactly. It’s for reference only.
Kenji:“If you compare with the same risk, 3 days is the best. In other words, 3 days is close to the ‘just right’ point.”
However, this is based on past backtests; it does not guarantee future performance. If you want to try more, start with 3 days and then test for yourself.
Not all good news
Kenji:“I’ll be honest this time too.”
There are things I’d like to tell you.
・This is no longer a one-position operation. In the 3-day backtest, there were 28 days when holding three positions at the same time. Sometimes positions in the same direction overlap. It becomes a different usage from the original “do not stack positions” strength of Guard.
・Daily movements become larger. The maximum daily loss for 3 days was about 290,000 yen vs 230,000 yen for 1 day, and the maximum daily gain was about 280,000 yen vs 119,000 yen for 1 day.
・As trades increase, chances of slippage and spread impact also increase. The slippage test was conducted only for the 1-day version. We have not yet verified how it changes for 3 days.
・Please note that the recent profits carry more weight. From January to September 2026, the profits account for about 27% of the 3-day version’s total profit (about 28% for the 1-day version). This reflects strong gold movements that year.
All of these numbers are based onpast backtestsand do not guarantee future profits.
On the other hand, there is one more good point. Looking by year,in every year since 2013, the 3-day version outperformed the 1-day version.Last time in 2025, the older version performed better, but in this comparison there was no such year.
Additionally, reaching the upper limit of positions (initially 4) happened on day 17 for 5-day, and day 6 for 4-day.The 3-day version never hit the limit. With up to 3 days, there seems to be little need to worry about the limit.
Usage examples
Which setting you choose depends on your own management policy. Here are three ways to think about it as examples.
① As before (1 day)
Positions up to 2. This is for those who prioritize PF and quality per trade and prefer simple operation.
② Try 3 days
For those who want higher profits. Assuming overlapping positions, start with conservative lot sizes and verify the movement first before increasing.
③ Use per account
If you hold multiple licenses, you can set different offices to use 1-day and 3-day separately, so not all accounts move in the same way.
In all cases, firsttest with a smaller lot to ensure it worksand then adjust gradually.
Yoko’s note
“Increase trades, increase profits.” It seems obvious, but when you line up backtests, there is also a sweet spot for how you increase it.
The initial setting remains the same at 1 day. 3 days is purelyan option you can choosewith both advantages and cautions. I’d be glad if you pick what suits you best after reviewing the numbers.
This setting can be used by those who have already purchased it, at no additional cost.
Next time
Actually, I had planned this to be the final installment, butI’m retracting that. There are so many things I want to write about that I don’t think I can end just yet.
Regarding the new GOLD EA that Kenji is developing, this series will continue as long as Kenji feels like it.Next time, we may bring you the actual account for v1.10, or another topic entirely… that will also depend on Kenji’s mood (laugh).
Thank you for reading until the end.
