Semi-discretionary EA ELDRA v4.45〜4.46 New features Partial settlement "how to use 1/2・1/3"
Hello, this is Hosono P, the author of ELDRA.
“I’ve got unrealized profits but it would be a waste to close everything,” “The position has expanded with averaging down, so I’d like to reduce only half first.” When trading with discretion, you encounter these situations many times, right?
Until now, ELDRA only had the “Close All” buttons for SELL CLOSE, BUY CLOSE, and CLOSE ALL. We received requests from users to “close only half,” so in v4.45 we addedPartial close buttons (1/2・1/3) (MT5 version only). At the same time, we summarize the bugs fixed from v4.43 to v4.46 that are relevant to users.
How to summon the partial close buttons
The row for partial close isusually hidden. It’s not a function used by everyone, so when closed, the panel looks the same as before.
- On the main panel, press the “1/n” button above the BUY button (to the right of the SPREAD display).
- The button lights up, and the panel becomes one row higher.
- Under SELL CLOSE you will see the sell “1/2” and “1/3”,Under BUY CLOSE you will see the buy “1/2” and “1/3” arranged.
- Press “1/n” again to close.
- The open/close state issaved per account and instrument (backtests start from a closed state).
- The miniature panel (36-5. Mini Panel) also has the same “1/n” button and partial close row.
- 36-4. Keep the panel height setting value as is. When open, it will internally add one row, so it will not overlap with the information panel below.
What happens
The partial close buttonsreduce the lot size of each position in that direction to 1/2 or 1/3. It does not “halve the number of positions.”
For example, when there are three buy orders (0.06・0.04・0.02) and you press the “1/2” for buys, all three remain, but each position’s lot size is reduced accordingly.
How the closing amount is determined
The closing amount is calculated as “lot × ratio”rounded down to the lot increment (mostly 0.01). And,orders whose closing amount or remaining amount would fall below the minimum lot are not touched. This is to prevent accidentally closing all of the minimum-lot orders.
| Holding lots | Button | Closing amount | Remaining |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.05 | 1/2 | 0.02 | 0.03 |
| 0.03 | 1/2 | 0.01 | 0.02 |
| 0.01 | 1/2 | none | 0.01 (as is) |
| 0.02 | 1/3 | none | 0.02 (as is) |
If you’re practicing with small lots, you might feel “I pressed it but it didn’t reduce,” but as shown in the table above, this is by design.
Other rules
- Targets are33-8. Operation targetspositions determined by (default) magic numbers and the chart’s currency pair.
- If you want to reduce both buys and sells, continue pressing the sell “1/2” and buy “1/2” in succession.
- For prop firm settings (32-1),positions held for the minimum time are skipped.
- Will not execute during re-closing of all positions or during grid all-close.
- When finished, you’ll be notified of the number of closures, the number that could not be reduced, and the holding time.
Even during averaging down and grid, the ladders do not collapse
ELDRA manages the ladder counts for averaging down, grid, and pyramids via position comments. In MT5, comments from orders used for partial close are copied to the position, so if you do nothing, the ladder information could be lost. Thereforewe attach the original comment to the closing orders as-is.
After a partial close, subsequent averaging down and martingale calculations usethe reduced lot as the basis. After halving, the next ladder’s lot will also be smaller, so keep that in mind.
Not available in MT4 version
MT4 does not include partial closes because when a partial close occurs, the ticket number changes and the comment becomes “from #old number,” which disrupts ladder counting for averaging down, grid, and pyramids. Therefore,it is not included in the MT4 version. If you want partial closes, please use the MT5 version.
Common mistakes
- Trying with 0.01 lot and it doesn’t move: You cannot reduce minimum-lot orders. Try 0.02 or more (0.03 or more if 1/3).
- Using ATR close in a two-way (hedge) mode: If you are using 6-5. ATR close and 6-9. hedged blended price mode, rounding the partial close amount may offset the blended price, causing unintended closings. Avoid this combination.
- Prop firm with a cap on closing frequency: In 58-1. Daily closing limit, partial close also counts as one closing per order. If you press rapidly when there are many orders, you may approach the limit.
- Suddenly using on a real account: Partial close moves have been tested in a tester, but broker-specific quirks exist. Start with a demo or backtest and try it once first.
Bugs fixed in v4.43–4.46 (relevant to users)
1. Closed panels reappearing on their own (v4.43)
Even if you close the trade info panel (33-6) and the position info panel (35-1) with an X, they would reappear when changing the timeframe or restarting MT5.Closed state is now properly saved. If you don’t want to show them from the start, keep 33-6 and 35-1 as false as before.
2. Backtest showed almost no averaging down or grid (v4.45)
Because the repeated averaging down prevention was measured in real time on a PC, backtests showed little averaging down for the first ladder and some grids skipped.Backtests from v3.47 to v4.44 show fewer averaging down and grid actions than actual. We revised the tester to measure in simulated time, so please redo the averaging down and grid settings with the latest version. Actual operation does not change.
3. Remaining amount in hedged full close (v4.45, MT5)
When hedging buys and sells with different lots (e.g., buy 0.02, sell 0.01), in CLOSE ALL, weekend close, daily target, or balance target all-close, the larger remaining (buy 0.01) could remain unclosed, which could carry to the weekend. If you used this method, please update. The larger remaining order may stay unclosed.
4. Prop firm improvements (v4.44・v4.46)
- We strengthened the “exposure risk pool” for firms with loss-cap rules, to support averaging down and martingale. The criterion is the smaller of the initial balance or the current balance, and when adding the next ladder would reach the cap, that ladder is skipped.
- 32-1. Added one more preset for a different prop firm type (v4.46).
Summary
- Open the partial close row with 1/n, and for each direction reduce the position lots with “1/2” or “1/3” (MT5 only).
- Do not touch orders that would drop below the minimum lot. Ladder comments are preserved.
- Bug fix in backtests for averaging down and grid in v4.45. Re-run older test results.
Realize partial profits first to extend the rest, and lighten the volumes grown by averaging down. Consider this an additional discretionary option. Please verify settings and usage by yourself and take responsibility.
