[ELDRA Strategy Guide Part 3] Types of Entries and How to Use Them: Manual, Both Sides, Break, and Time
Hello, this is Hoso no P, the author of ELDRA.
“ELDRA has so many features that I don’t know where to entry from.” This is the most frequently asked question.
ELDRA is a “semi-discretionary EA,” so there are basically two entry入口Push by yourself (panel)andEntrust to the EA (auto entry)Two. Even with auto entry alone, there are several types such as candlestick switch, always hedged, high/low breakout, time anomaly, coin toss, strategies.
In this Part 3, we will list the entry types and整理 “what market and what usage they suit.” Detailed discussions on averaging down and grids are covered in Part 2 and Part 8, so this time we’ll focus on “how to place the first entry.”
First, the big picture: ELDRA’s entry list
Additionally, there are signs for “24. Wig-catching” that catches rebounds at the edge of the Bollinger Bands, and “37. Indicator Entry” which uses signals from custom or market indicators (for information on indicators, please refer to the article “Entry with RSI”).
1. Panel Manual: Start here
The simplest is the panel.
- BUY / SELL:Place market orders
- Limit / Stop:Place pending orders(Cancel to cancel)
- Trailing:Move the limit price to follow the price(23. Limit Trailing)
- OCO:Place buy and sell pending orders, cancel the other once one is filled
After manually placing one entry, if averaging-down, take-profit width, or trailing are ON, the EA will take care of it.“Entrance by humans, exit and management by the EA”is the basic way to use ELDRA.
The panel can also be pressed in the Strategy Tester (Visual Mode), so you can practice on past charts what would have happened if you entered manually in a given scenario.
2. Candlestick Switch Entry (20)
Enter at the moment a new candlestick forms.
|---|---|---|
| 20-1. Candlestick Switch Entry ON/OFF | OFF | ON enables |
| 20-2. └ Entry Direction | Buy and Sell | Buy only / Sell only / No position, etc. can be chosen |
| 20-3. └ Timeframe | 0 (chart timeframe) | Which candle switch to enter on |
Recommended is“no-position buy only” or similar “no-position” types. If you add positions every time the candle changes, the number will explode, so if you’re combining with averaging-down, use “enter the first one only when no position” for easier management.
3. Always Entry and Hedging (21)
Panel’s“Always”function is linked to the button. When there is no position, it automatically places the next one, enabling you to cycle through profit-taking and re-entry endlessly.
| 21-1. Always Entry Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| 1 / 2 | Always enter buy-only / sell-only |
| 3 | Hedging (same-direction immediate replenishment): immediately re-enter the side that was closed |
| 4 | Hedging (no-positions hedging): if both sides disappear, place buy and sell simultaneously |
| 5 | Momentum classic: place stop orders up and down, and only fill on the moved side |
| 6 | Counter-trend Momentum |
Related settings are as follows.
- 21-2. └ Re-try wait (seconds):Seconds to wait when an order fails (default 3)
- 21-3. └ Wait after settlement (seconds):Interval between settlement and placing next entry (default 0)
- 21-4. └ Momentum order distance (pts):Distance to place stop for momentum (default 100)
- 21-6. └ Momentum max spread (pts):0 means use “33-2. Maximum allowed spread”
Hedging, while it allows profit on either side, leaves unrealized losses on the opposite side.Always set a cap on averaging-down maximum entries (9-4) and amount SL (6-1) together with exit limitsbefore use.
4. High/Low Breakout (25)
You buy when it breaks above the most recent high, and sell when it breaks below the low, following a trend. It trails with a stop, so you can join only when there’s strong movement.
|---|---|---|
| 25-1. HL Breakout Mode | OFF | Both sides / Buy only / Sell only |
| 25-2. └ Level Calculation Timeframe | Daily | If daily, use the daily high/low as baseline |
| 25-3. └ Reference Bars (Confirmed Bars) | 3 | How many bars back to look at highs/lows |
| 25-4. └ Level Offset (pts) | 0 | How far away from highs/lows to place |
For well-moving instruments likegems that move a lotsuch as gold, stock indices, and Bitcoin. Conversely, for ranging instruments, misfires increase, so combining with the “ADX filter” trend mode introduced in Part 6 is recommended.
Also, some indices have larger minimum lots, so please set the lot size to be above the instrument’s minimum lot (explained in Part 5).
5. Time Anomaly (26)
A function that places entries at a set time and closes at a set time.
|---|---|---|
| 26-1. Anomaly Mode | OFF | Buy / Sell |
| 26-2. └ Entry Time (JST HHMM) | 0900 | Input in Japan Standard Time |
| 26-3. └ Settlement Time (JST HHMM) | 0955 | If entry time is later, settled next day |
| 26-4. └ Day of Week (1=Mon…5=Fri) | 12345 | “13” means Mon and Wed only |
| 26-5. └ Date Filter | All trading days | GOTO days / 25th only can be selected as well (excluding Japanese holidays) |
| 26-7. └ Ignore Japanese holidays | OFF | Turn ON for indices and other instruments that move on holidays |
Time should be entered inJapan Time. The server time and daylight saving calculations are handled by the EA (see Part 6, “19-1. Time acquisition method”).
If you start or restart the EA mid-session, the entry window is designed to skip that day to avoid “late entry.” The same applies if you manually settle that day.
6. Coin Toss (27)
A function that decides entry direction by a random number. Not a winning function, but for validation.
This was created to measure how results would look under given account conditions (participation fee, loss cap, target). It does not use lot, SL, or TP; it simply follows 1. Lot settings and 5. SL/TP settings as is.
- 27-2. └ Random seed:If 0, it is automatic from startup time.If using multiple accounts, be sure to set a unique value for each account. The same value would make all accounts trade identically
- 27-3. └ Cooling time after settlement (seconds)
- 27-4. └ Daily maximum turns
7. Strategy (47〜55)
Automates trading using signals from technical indicators.
|---|---|---|
| 48 | MA | Breakout, Golden Cross, Perfect Order |
| 49 | BB | Bollinger band touch reversal, breakout, breakout after squeeze |
| 50 | RSI | Exits oversold, breaks 50 level |
| 51 | MACD | Signal break, break of zero line |
| 52 | Three Tops | Head and shoulders / inverse |
| 53 | SuperTrend | Trend change / in-trend |
| 54 | Institutional Investor Detection | Heavy volume surge |
| 55 | Breakout | ZigZag・ATR・Daily range・Donchian |
Usage is three steps.
- 47-1. Master SwitchTurn ON
- Turn ON the desired strategy’s “Enabled” (e.g., 50-1) and choose buy and sell signals
- 47-2. Signal Synthesis ModeChoose (OR = place order if any one signals; AND = all must align to place order)
47-3. Entry ConditionsThe default “No position only” is recommended. If you select “Only on different candles,” orders will accumulate by candle, increasing the number of entries.
Common mistakes
- Having two or more入口 ON:If you turn on both Always Entry and Strategy at the same time, you’ll get an unexpectedly large number of orders. Start by narrowing to one入口
- Hedging with no exit:Always hedging leaves unrealized losses on the opposite side. Decide the maximum number of averaging-down entries and money SL (see Part 4) beforehand
- Breaking out in a range instrument:Prone to whipsaws. Use the ADX Filter to limit to “during trends”
- Same seed for coin toss across multiple accounts:All accounts end up trading the same, defeating diversification
Summary
- If you’re unsure, start with“Manual one on the panel → managed by the EA”.
- If you want to run passively, useAlways Entry (21), and if you want to enter only when no position, useCandlestick Switch (20)
- For trend-following, useHigh/Low Breakout (25), for time-based tendencies useTime Anomaly (26), and for technicals useStrategy (47〜55)
- Coin Toss (27) is for validation
Any entry will yield different results depending on market and instrument. Always verify with backtesting and demo first. Configure settings after validation and use at your own risk.
In the next Part 4, we’ll cover “Techniques for Settlement.” We’ll summarize exiting features such as monetary SL/TP, balance % loss, trailing, and time-based settlements.
