Removing the tool leaves buttons and lines: how to delete drawing objects
I am Yohaku, creating MT4/MT5 indicators and convenient tools. What I make is decided from complaints heard in reviews and questions on GoGoJhan.
Among them there is a voice: “Even after removing the tool, the buttons and lines remain on the chart.” It means they don’t disappear even after removing from the Navigator. This is about chart “objects,” and once you understand how it works, you can delete them yourself.
Conclusion first
- The lines, buttons, and text drawn by indicators and tools are “objects,” separate from the tool itself.
- Depending on how they are built, even if you detach the main tool, only the object may remain.
- The remaining objects can be deleted from the object list (Ctrl+B).
Both “lines” and “buttons” are objects
Horizontal lines, trend lines, arrows, squares, text, and even the order entry panel-like buttons and backgrounds on the chart are collectively called “objects.”
What’s important is that objects are the result drawn by the tool, not the tool itself. Even if you detach the main body from the Navigator, the drawn result (the object) may not disappear automatically.
Why they can remain after detaching
When detaching a tool, if it properly includes a process to “clean up the objects it drew,” everything will disappear upon detachment.
Conversely, if that cleanup is insufficient, only the objects will remain on the chart. The main body is gone, so it won’t move, but visually it stays. This is the reason why buttons and lines remain after detaching.
This is more a matter of the creator’s housekeeping than the tool’s quality. For my tools, I always verify via tests that the number of objects becomes zero when detached before releasing them.
If you want to verify on your own chart that components don’t remain after detaching, you can useAuto Lot Calculation Panel(to verify automatically that no buttons, lines, or backgrounds remain after detaching) through automated tests.
