[Important prerequisite ③] For those considering trading with a 20x leverage account
Hello, this is Yoko.
The third installment of the series "RisingTide For Those Considering Purchase: Important Prerequisites" isFor those considering operating with an account of 20x leverage. We will share the results measured in practice for those who want to use it in a low-leverage environment such as domestic accounts.
1. Premises
- Instrument: GOLD (XAUUSD), M5 chart
- Settings: Standard mode, lot multiplier 1.07, stop-loss brake 18,000 dollars, 0.01 lot
- Leverage: 1:20
- Testing: started on September 1, 2026 and continued to September 30 (including the drop on September 28)
2. Results by starting equity
| Starting equity | Stop-out | Minimum maintenance margin | Start of stop-down of averaging down (9/28) | Number of stops | P/L on 9/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000,000 yen | None | 62.6% | 08:20 | 463 | −68,648 yen |
| 1,500,000 yen | None | 68.6% | 09:05 | 446 | −71,442 yen |
| 2,000,000 yen | None | 75.2% | 10:00 | 397 | −47,498 yen |
| 2,600,000 yen | None | 80.0% | 10:40 | 341 | +863 yen |
| 3,000,000 yen | None | 80.2% | 11:25 | 280 | +54,697 yen |
Under the same conditions, with 1:◎000, the profit above 1,500,000 yen was +234,006 yen (Episode 2). With 20x leverage, even 3,000,000 yen yields only +54,697 yenas a result.
3. Why is there a difference: averaging down stops
RisingTide increases the lot and buys down as losses accumulate. However, with 20x leverage, the required margin is much higher than in high-leverage (◎000x) accounts. In deep situations, there is not enough margin, and the EA will skip orders. The log records "Order skipped due to insufficient margin."
In the September 28 example, averaging down stopped at 8:20 AM for 1,000,000 yen and at 11:25 AM for 3,000,000 yen. Increasing funds only delayed the stopping by about three hours.
When averaging down stops, you cannot buy more at a cheap price, so the subsequent rebound cannot recover as much. It does not mean losses are realized, but recovery may take time or may not occur.
4. No room in the maintenance margin
The minimum maintenance margin was 62.6% at 1,000,000 yen and 80.2% at 3,000,000 yen. Even if you increase funds, the maintenance margin does not improve much.
The loss-cut level varies by broker. For example, with a broker whose loss-cut level is 100%, the above maintenance margins would all fall below the threshold, triggering forced loss-cut. Be sure to check your own account's loss-cut level.
5. What happens if you increase funds
| Starting equity | Minimum maintenance margin | P/L on 9/30 |
|---|---|---|
| 3,000,000 yen | 80.2% | +54,697 yen |
| 4,500,000 yen | 95.7% | +203,075 yen |
| 6,000,000 yen | 100.7% | +234,006 yen |
With 20x leverage, achieving the same result as a high-leverage account (+234,006 yen) occurred when the starting equity was6,000,000 yen. The maintenance margin also exceeded 100% here. To operate RisingTide as designed with 20x leverage, you need more than double the funds of a high-leverage account.
6. 12-year backtest (20x)
A 12-year backtest starting July 2014 with 1,000,000 yen completed even with 20x leverage (total net profit +8,152,029 yen, profit factor 2.15, minimum maintenance margin 80.6%). However, this was also the result of profits accumulating along the way.A brand-new account does not have the same cushion. As stated in Episode 2.
7. For those operating with 20x
- We recommend a high-leverage account.RisingTide essentially presumes a high-leverage account around 1:◎000 or so.
- If you operate at 20x, prepare at least 3,000,000 yen, ideally 4.5–6 million yen. Note, even 3,000,000 yen keeps maintenance margin at 80%.
- We do not recommend brokers with high loss-cut levels.
- Not recommended for beginners.
There is no guarantee that further declines will not occur. Start with a comfortable amount within your own funds.
- Operation mode (Stable, Moderate, Aggressive) and SET file (Episode 4)
- For those considering micro accounts (Episode 5)
