First, as a premise, let's look at the differences in the quantity and ratio of free indicators.
It is not because “everyone finds migrating to MT5 bothersome.”
The main reason is thatif you port MT4 code (MQL4) literally, there are invisible fatal bugs and processing delays—there is a technical “code barrier.”.
Tools that were transplanted with a patch-like approach are prone to misoperation in actual use and are dangerous.
Fundamentally, the language and structure of the code itself are different.
That is why I guess the market hardly sees free MT5 tools.
■When you clear that “structural barrier” from the ground up, MT5’s true value shines
However, when you optimize and rebuild the internal structure from scratch to fit MT5 specifications, it demonstrates performance that is completely different from MT4.
The most perceptible isthe overwhelming speed of “bulk settlement of multiple positions”.
MT4, no matter how refined the code is, has a single-thread (one path) limit,
and when settling multiple positions at once, there was a structural limitation where it processed one by one and was sluggish.
On the other hand, MT5’s internal threading is strongly parallelized,so back-end processing completes multiple position settlements in an instant.
When the market suddenly changes or you want to “get out of multiple positions as quickly as possible,” this speed difference directly protects the trader’s account balance (acceptable loss).
It’s not simply because it’s new; it’s a choice to physically reduce delays in orders and settlements that could be life-or-death on the field.
■The real-world downsides behind MT5’s advantages
Of course, it’s not all positive.
In fact, there are traps that trouble developers and heavy users.
1. “Silent inclusion” due to frequent build updates
MT4 is stable as it’s a “stagnant technology” since development has stopped, but MT5 is in the middle of evolution right now.
Therefore, with every update from MetaQuotes, indicators or button drawings that worked normally until now may suddenly stop working or behave suspiciously.

If updates are frequent in a short period and your previously functioning tools start to feel off, it might be wise to suspect bugs caused by updates.
2. Difficulty in diagnosing the cause of troubles
When trouble occurs, pinpointing the cause is incredibly difficult.
For an ordinary trader, identifying whether the culprit is “your PC environment,” “tool defect,” or “MT5 core bug due to an update” is extremely challenging.
As developers, we are always at risk of being tossed about by platform whims of updates.
3. Tool integration and compatibility issues
If a tool is built without the above precautions, it may delay a chart or even freeze in worst cases.
■Honestly, I’ve also cried from “update hit hard” moments (laughs)
“Huh…? The button won’t press,” “Something’s sluggish…” When trouble occurs, what makes it particularly bad is how hard it is to segregate the cause.
When I got stuck in the past, it was exactly a “threefold hardship.”
“Is my code at fault?!” I tinkered with the code until late at night
“Is it a core MT5 build bug?!” I scoured overseas forums
“Is it a PC problem?!” When I opened Task Manager,I found a single CPU thread pinned at 100%, and I nearly fainted (laugh).
Pinpointing where the cause lies—code, MT5 core, or PC CPU behavior—was a truly nerve-wracking experience.
