We learned how to attack, but no one taught us how to defend. To stay in the market, we decided how to lose first.
Market information is mostly about the attacker’s perspective.
Where to enter. Which currency pair to look at. Which indicators to combine. I learned the basics as well.
But at a certain point I realized something. The attacker’s methods could be learned from books or videos, yet there were hardly any resources that teach you the defense.
This article is about that defense. It’s a plain topic, so if you read it expecting flashy results, you may feel disappointed. I’ll give you a heads-up first.
My funds decreased not because of the method itself
Looking back, there was a commonality on the days my account dropped a lot.
The first loss of that day was not a big deal.
The problem came after that. The second and third attempts to recover. The lot sizes increased, the rationale weakened, and before I knew it the losses multiplied several times over the initial loss.
In other words, losing itself was within expectations. What was unexpected was my actions after the loss.
Even changing the method didn’t fix this. No matter how good the method, adding a trade to “recover” at the end of the day would produce the same result.
Defending means deciding how much you’re willing to lose in advance
So what is defending? My answer is singular.
Decide calmly how much you will lose for that day in advance.
It sounds obvious when spoken. I think most people have already decided. I had decided as well.
Even though I had decided, I couldn’t keep it. For me, the challenge wasn’t “decide” but making that decision effective even when I was losing.
I declare four caps before trading
The PosPosition-Buster starts by you declaring your own limits before you begin trading. The four declarations are as follows.
One-day loss limit. The amount you’re willing to lose that day.
Total risk limit. This is what I needed the most. It includes not only realized losses but also the unrealized loss of currently held positions.
If you postpone stopping losses and keep adding positions while carrying unrealized losses, the visible loss amount may stay neat, but the real damage widens. This is what I used to do. Because it wasn’t realized as a loss yet, I told myself I hadn’t lost. The total risk limit is to prevent that kind of excuse from working.
Loss-count limit. The number of losing trades you’re willing to tolerate that day. It’s the cumulative total for the day, not consecutive losses. Even if you have wins in between, the loss count doesn’t reset.
Trade-count limit. How many trades you’ll take that day.
If any one of these is reached, your open positions are closed and MT4 ends. You cannot resume trading until 5:00 the next morning.
Defending isn’t about patience
This is the part that changed the most once I tried it.
When I watched the limits myself, defending consumed physical energy. Sitting in front of the chart, telling myself, “Don’t enter yet.” It’s exhausting. On days I was tired, the pep talk stopped working.
Now I don’t tell myself. Because once the limit is hit, I’m not in a position to trade anyway.
I’m not forcing myself, so I don’t get exhausted. I removed defense from the mental effort and relegated it to the environment. That alone made a big difference for me.
What happens when you survive
The defense topic may seem dull because it doesn’t make your account grow.
But what I felt was different.
The morning after a day you didn’t lose much, you can sit in front of the market normally.
On days ending with an expected, controlled loss, there’s no regret. What’s decreasing is the amount you’ve decided to tolerate—so you’re not afraid to look at your account the next morning.
Conversely, the morning after exceeding the limit, your judgment is dull. The urge to recover leads you to enter where you would normally skip. A single big loss didn’t end that day; it didn’t end there either.
Defense works not only by reducing that day’s losses. It also sends the next day’s you into the market in a sane state.
The market is here tomorrow too. Being in a state to face it calmly tomorrow became my most important condition.
Honestly, I’ll note who shouldn’t apply
Next, for people who do not suit this, I cannot recommend it.
• Those who hold positions for days to weeks: long-term or swing-focused traders (limits are applied regardless of holding period)
• Those running other EAs on the same MT4 who don’t want to be stopped (the entire MT4 session ends, so other EAs stop too)
• Those whose main trading is on a smartphone MT4 app (app trades are not monitored under this system)
• Those using Mac MT4 or MT5 (won’t run)
Also, once you reach a limit, you cannot resume until the next morning. This is by design. There will be days when you want to push a little more. If that inconvenience and what you want to defend don’t align, this isn’t for you.
Finally
This tool does not predict the market. It does not generate buy/sell signals. It does not change win rates.
What changes is the way you lose.
The attacker’s approach will continue to be something you study. However, to continue attacking, you must first stay in the market.
Prepare a mechanism to stay in calmly. That’s all I did.
All specifications and operating conditions are written on the product page. It plainly lists what happens when you reach the limit, without hiding it, so please read it before considering.
