"The entry was correct but the number doesn't increase" - How to prevent it, by turning split payments and moving entry price into a system rather than relying on intuition|Make split payments and price movement moves into a mechanism, not a feeling
Conclusion (First):The reason funds do not grow in trading is often not only entry precision but also “execution delays and slippage.”
Specifically,① deciding profit-taking timing every time based on the moment's emotions, ② hesitating about moving the stop loss to the entry price each time, these are the two points.
The countermeasures are simple: predefine numerical conditions for taking profit and moving to break-even, such as “advance to 1R and take half of the position, move the rest to break-even,” and delegate execution to the mechanism (tools and rules).
The key is to have you make the judgment and let the mechanism handle the execution.
Why I arrived at this way of thinking
I have 15 years of FX experience, and for over 10 years I was a losing trader.
I started by losing 10,000 yen immediately, then kept buying information products, signal indicators, EAs, and expensive coaching, totaling over 3,000,000 yen.
Looking back, I realized that many of my failures when I was losing were not about “where to enter,” but about “how to exit after entering.”
When profits grew, greed made me think it could go a bit further, so I delayed the predetermined profit-taking.
Conversely, when price retraced a little, I became anxious and closed everything early. In the same situation, I made different judgments each time.
The idea of separating “judgment” and “execution”
This is the point I currently value most.
“Where to enter” and “where to cut” are judgments. “When to take half-profit” and “when to move to break-even” are execution under pre-established rules.
Judgment must be made by humans while watching the market, but if execution can be quantified, entrusting it to a mechanism reduces slippage.
Point ① Manage with “R” based on stop-loss width
If you measure stop-loss width as 1.0R, you can check how many multiples the unrealized profit has progressed in terms of multiples, not by feel.
If the stop loss is 20 pips, advancing 20 pips is 1R.
If you measure unrealized profit as a number like 1.3R rather than “a little more,” your decision criteria stay stable.
Point ② Fix profit-taking and break-even move timings in advance with numbers
Decide before entry the rule like “advance to 1R and take half, move the remainder to break-even.”
Next is a hypothetical example for explanation (not based on actual results).
- Account balance 1,000,000 yen, risk 1% (allowable loss 10,000 yen), stop-loss 20 pips in USDJPY, lot size 0.5
- When advancing to 1R (20 pips), liquidate half at 0.25 lots → profit about 5,000 yen (hypothetical calculation)
- Move the remaining 0.25 lots’ stop-loss to break-even
- If the remaining position advances to 2R (40 pips), this adds another roughly 10,000 yen, totaling about 15,000 yen (1.5R)
- If it instead reverses back to break-even and is closed, additional profit/loss is almost zero (may not be exactly zero due to spreads and slippage)
The above is only a hypothetical calculation example.
Point ③ Let the mechanism handle scenarios where emotions are prone to move
Both when unrealized profits are growing and when unrealized losses are present, emotions tend to move strongly.
In such scenarios, having a mechanism that can execute the pre-decided rules as-is, rather than making on-the-spot judgments, helps reduce drift.
FAQ
Q. If you split profits and move to break-even, will profits always increase?
A. No. It does not guarantee profits or win rate. It is a concept to reduce execution drift.
Q. Are the proportions and timing for taking half and moving to break-even the same numbers for everyone?
A. No. Appropriate values differ depending on stop-loss width, currency pair, and time frame. Please verify with your own methodology.
Q. Can these rules be executed manually?
A. Yes. However, since human emotion can sway during execution, using tools that execute numerical rules automatically is also an option.
Q. What should a beginner decide first?
A. First, decide the concept of “R” based on stop-loss width and the allowable loss per trade (risk%) for your approach.
How I shaped this thinking
From this idea of separating judgment and execution, I created MT5-exclusive discretionary assistant panel “Trade Pilot Pro.”
It is designed to perform risk% to lot calculation, split profit-taking and break-even moves, and manage martingale/grid in one panel.
It is not a fully automated EA that decides market direction and trades automatically; judgment remains with you, and the tool assists in executing the decided rules.
