【September 21】 Respect for the Aged Day, Tokyo market closed; over the weekend BTC breaks above $80,000
undefined undefinedToday is Respect for the Aged Day, so the Tokyo Stock Exchange is closed. In the meantime, the forex market is tugging between yen weakness and intervention warnings, and BTC has broken through the $80,000 level over the weekend. We will cover only the markets that are moving even on a holiday.
Good morning, this is Launch FX.
In the free section, we summarize price movements from Friday (9/18) through the weekend; in the paid section, we summarize the monitoring levels and conditions for today considering holidays and thin liquidity. Because the Nikkei 225 is closed for the Tokyo market holiday, this is a reference for the overnight futures level rather than a normal trading scenario.
※ Price references: Foreign exchange, GOLD, and BTC are based on the bid as of the morning of September 21; stock indices use the official close on September 18 (Friday). Since CFD/futures accounts can have price differences, please verify the same product with its chart before placing orders.

Friday–Weekend Q&A
As reported in the previous issue (9/18 member brief), the buy scenario for USD/JPY and the Nikkei 225 was achieved following the Bank of Japan meeting results. We will further verify the events from Friday NY time through the weekend.
-
USD/JPY:
Friday afternoon outlook: if it recovers and holds 157.33, the target is 157.50. If it breaks below 156.50, secure the profits.
Result:After the release, momentum intensified, rising to as high as 158.05. The 157.50 target was reached. However, following reports of the Ministry of Finance’s “rate checks,” the pair was pushed back to around 156.70 due to intervention concerns, with NY closing at 156.79–156.88. This was a reversal after the target was met, so timing for profit-taking was crucial. -
Nikkei 225:
Friday outlook: target 65,000 yen.
Result:Finished at 65,018.95 yen, meeting the target. Three straight days of gains, returning to the 65,000 yen level for the first time in 10 days.
Organizing Friday–Weekend Price Movements
Friday's NY sessions were mixed. The Dow fell 95.40 points to 51,682.64, the S&P 500 rose 12.74 points to 7,650.50, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 104.24 points to 26,522.55. After midday, concerns about rising yields pushed the S&P 500 to 7,610.52, but in the afternoon tech-led buying pushed it back into positive territory.
GOLD rebounded from the weekly low of 4,261.80 following the FOMC, reflecting expectations of a rate cut as CPI cooled, with a weekly high of 4,400.60. Friday's close was 4,399.70 (+0.28%).
Bitcoin saw the largest move. Over the weekend, it rebounded roughly 8% from about $75,500 to clear the psychological $80,000 level, reaching as high as $81,800. Short positions built up before and around the FOMC were rapidly unwound, triggering over $200 million in forced liquidations within 24 hours. Bitcoin ETF also saw inflows of $592.5 million toward the end of the week.
In the forex market, yen weakness briefly reached around 158.05 following the Bank of Japan rate hike decision (7 voting for, 2 against), but reports of rate checks by the Ministry of Finance intensified intervention concerns, pushing it back toward around 156.70. With today (Monday) a Tokyo market holiday, the outcome of this tug of war will be tested in thin liquidity.
? What’s trending now
Noted investor Raul Pal pointed out on September 18 that BTC had broken above the NASDAQ-100 on the weekly chart. There is a view that BTC might outperform NASDAQ-100 in a rising rate environment, and it will be interesting to see if this strength continues after the weekend.
