[Reason for not changing conditions midway] Try for a week in a comparable way
It was Wednesday night of the week I tried a new method.
Because I missed twice in a row, I loosened one condition on the spot.
...If this continues, the whole week would be wasted.
Thinking that, my hand instinctively reached toward the settings.
The day after I loosened it, I did manage to get it properly, right?
I will write down what happened over the weekend exactly as it was.
To start with the conclusion, I couldn't use a single line for that week's records.
Good evening!
This is Masashi ^^
What I stopped this time is adjusting the condition in the middle when things aren’t going well.
Instead, I decided to carry on in the same form for a week no matter what happened.
If I want to change it, I write a modification proposal on paper and roll it over to the following week.
Since I implemented this rule, I’ve started leaving records that can be compared to the end of the month.
I loosened one condition on Wednesday night, and that whole week became unusable.
✅ On the weekend I tried to count, my hand stopped
On Sunday night, I tried to lay out and count the five occurrences of that week.
Monday and Tuesday were done with the original conditions.
Thursday and Friday were with the loosened conditions.
Wednesday was in the middle of that process.
In other words, three different methods were mixed in one week.
Only five occurrences, three methods. That makes it impossible to say anything.
It’s not clear whether the good outcome came from the original form or the loosened form.
Moreover, the problematic thing is that the loosened Thursday did yield results.
As a feeling, it seems like loosening was the right move.
But getting one favorable result may just reflect market conditions.
I didn’t have any material left to distinguish.
Using a week's worth of time, there was zero usable data for judgment.
✅ Five occurrences, three types. This made it impossible to judge.
Even if something was achieved the day after loosening, we can’t tell if that was due to the form or the market.
? The urge to tinker usually comes after two consecutive losses
When I review my records, I see a common pattern on the days I adjusted the conditions.
Almost always right after two consecutive misses.
One loss can be endured.
When the second comes, I begin to doubt the form itself.
From a probabilistic viewpoint, this is easier to understand.
No matter the form, two consecutive losses happen with a certain frequency.
So two losses are not a signal that the form is broken.
It’s just something that happens normally.
Even if I understand it in my head, I couldn’t endure it while I was there.
So I stopped relying on the ability to endure.
Instead, I am building a system that cannot be tinkered with.
? Two consecutive losses are not a signal that the form is broken; they happen normally.
Most records of days I adjusted the conditions are right after two consecutive losses.
? When you test by changing things, you end up with two or more causes
If you change things in the middle, why does it become impossible to compare?
The reason is that more than one thing moves.
When the result improves, the cause candidates become both form changes and market changes.
If there are two candidates, you can’t decide which worked.
Left undecided, only the impression that it was good remains.
And the following week, based on that impression, you again change the conditions.
If you keep doing this, your own form becomes different every week.
I ran like this for about six months.
Even after six months, all that remained were fragments of impressions.
If you don’t change, the cause becomes one.
One cause, whether good or bad, becomes the next material to use.
? When you test by changing, the candidates for the cause become two and you can’t decide.
If you don’t change, there is only one cause. One cause becomes material regardless of good or bad.
? Modify the proposal on paper and roll it over to the next week
I decided to do one thing when I feel like tinkering.
Not the settings, but touch the paper instead.
Write this line: [Want to change: widen the range of removal / Reason: two consecutive losses / Implementation: from next week].
After writing, I carry that week through to the end as it is.
Interestingly, when I reread it on the weekend, about half of it is not carried out.
The feeling when I wrote it has disappeared after three days.
Only the remaining half is reflected at the start of the following week.
When reflecting, I keep changing only one thing at a time.
If you change two things at once, you’ll again have two causes.
As this paper accumulates, you can see which items you keep doubting repeatedly.
For me, the same item appeared for three consecutive weeks.
That was truly a place that needed fixing, and when fixed, I settled down.
? Not the settings, touch the paper. Half of the written proposals disappear in three days.
Example of what to write:【Want to change: widen the removal range / Reason: two consecutive losses / Implementation: from next week】
? How to use one week as a unit in actual practice
Treat one week as one experiment.
On Monday morning, write the shape of that week on paper.
Only three things to write: the trigger, the exit point, and the allowed amount per occurrence.
【Trigger: what I decide / Exit: where I decide to exit / Allowance: 1% of the account】This is the format.
The exact content differs by person, so here we only set the framework.
Then on Sunday night, count how many times you executed that week and how many times you carried through.
You don’t look at profit amount first. Weekly profit can vary too much.
What you look at is how many times you could do the same form and how many times you broke it in the middle.
If there are two weeks in a row with zero breaks, only then reflect the modification.
While it’s broken, you cannot judge the quality of the form.
Because you can’t tell if you aren’t keeping the rule or if the form isn’t right.
With this order, I reduced needless changes significantly.
Because I reduced replacements, I can work with one form longer.
? While breaking, you cannot judge the quality of the form. You can’t distinguish.
Example:【Trigger: what I decide / Exit: where I decide to exit / Allowance: 1% of the account】
⚠ It’s also fine to stop midway; plan for that too
Even though you say one week is constant, there are exceptions.
If you don’t decide exceptions, you can’t stop safely when necessary.
I keep only one exception.
When the total allowance for that week reaches that amount, that week ends at that point.
It’s not changing the form; it’s choosing to stop.
These two are similar but completely different.
Changing breaks the experiment; stopping stops the experiment.
The stopped week is counted by the number of times up to that point.
Even with fewer times, since nothing is mixed, it can still be material.
Moreover, the existence of a week where you could stop is itself a result.
A form that cannot stop cannot be used for long, no matter how good it is.
⚠ Changing breaks the experiment; stopping stops the experiment.
There is one exception. When the total weekly allowance is reached, the week ends then.
? The reason for chapters about useless verifications and seeking the Holy Grail
There is a section about useless verifications and seeking the Holy Grail near GOLD’s most effective parts.
Starting with this topic at the beginning of a method book might seem odd.
However, many people cannot move forward unless they overcome this.
When things don’t go well, people first look for something else.
This is when the journey to find the answers in textbooks begins, saying this and that.
I too spent a long time on that journey.
I could stop the journey only after I had fully tried one form to the end.
I tried it and found it didn’t fit in some cases.
Still, knowing what didn’t fit helped me move to the next step.
When I was changing in the middle, I didn’t even know what didn’t fit.
So I think fixing the conditions is a foundation before the method itself.
? When I was changing in the middle, I didn’t even know what didn’t fit.

⭕ If this approach doesn’t suit you
Finally, I’ll also write what to do if it doesn’t suit you.
If you want to adjust your method every day to fit the market, this rule won’t suit you.
Since you fix a week, your daily optimum will inevitably shift.
Also, for people whose weekly occurrences are originally one or two, this is likely difficult.
Because you won’t reach a countable amount, it’s better to consider two weeks or a month as units.
The teaching materials won’t change results the day after you read them.
It takes time to fully test one form.
We cannot promise future profits.
First, write the week’s form in three lines for this week.
If you want to change midway, write on paper, not in settings.
Just doing this will leave enough records to count for a week on Sunday night.
⭕ Because you fix a week, your daily optimum will inevitably shift.
For those who are not suited: those who want to adjust the method daily, or those whose weekly count is one or two
? Summary: When you want to change, touch the paper
Because you loosened the condition on Wednesday, that week ended up with three mixed methods.
Since there were only five occurrences but three methods, you could not make any judgments.
So now I write the modification on paper and roll it over to the following week. The actual entry is 【Want to change: widen the removal range / Reason: two consecutive losses / Implementation: from next week】.
The point to look at is not the weekly profit but how many times you could do the same form and how many breaks occurred in the middle.
Only after two weeks in a row with zero breaks will I reflect the modification once. While it’s broken, you cannot judge the quality of the form.
In the early part of the teaching material there is a section about useless verifications and seeking the Holy Grail. It does not change results the day after you read it, nor can it promise future profits.
If your hand tends to drift to adjustments on a week you’re not doing well, try writing the week’s form in three lines and start from there ^^
