【9/16 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 155.05. This morning, USD/JPY started around 155.10, but in the early Tokyo session the uptrend from yesterday’s dollar strength continued, rising to around 155.50 (today’s Tokyo high) after 10:30 Japan time.
However, with the U.S. retail sales data and the FOMC decision looming this evening, upside pressure is likely to ease, and USD/JPY is expected to echo the morning level into the overseas session.
A rate hike at this evening’s FOMC is almost certain. The focus is whether the cycle has started or if its significance remains provisional. The most volatile outcome is unclear. Please watch Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference.
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points (my memo).
● Movements near the London market open at around 16:00
● Movements after the U.S. Retail Sales release at 21:30
● Movements near the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the U.S. FOMC interest rate decision and statement at 27:00
● Movements after the U.S. Powell press conference at 27:30

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves near market opens and after 21:30 “U.S. Retail Sales,” 27:00 “U.S. FOMC rate decision & statement,” and 27:30 “Powell press conference.” For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” sticking to the theory should be fine. The market is highly volatile with ample material.
Also, if you’re aiming to short with the “15-minute scalping strategy,” wait for a minor pullback and look to sell around 155.20–30 or lower, then move down; of course, positions should be flat during U.S. data and FOMC events.
Thank you for your continued support tonight as well!
Scalping involves small profit targets, so it may seem like there are opportunities 24 hours a day, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with reasonably high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open time (US daylight time 16:00– / US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (US daylight time 22:00– / US standard time 23:00–)
Even right after U.S. indicators or events, volatility increases and opportunities arise. However, in the minutes immediately after the release the spreads may widen, so always enter after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the U.S. indicators and event schedule in advance. Knowing when chances come allows you to build profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning right before U.S. indicators or events. If you go against it, you’ll be ruined in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable.
U.S. indicators and events schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage or FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points besides these three, but I’ve explained the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
