【9/3 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points】
Thank you for your hard work! Alright, let's do Dollar-Yen scalping again tonight!
First, the Tokyo session overview for today.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around the 157.60 level. This morning it started around 158.70, but during the Tokyo session the intermittent selling pressure that has continued since yesterday did not change, and the price moved lower.
Yesterday, selling that reminded us of intervention rekindled expectations for US-J Japan coordinated intervention, and comments by Bank of Japan Executive Director Takata raised concerns about continued rate hikes or a large 0.5% hike. If “consecutive” or “0.5%” were possible, USD/JPY would be game-changed. I doubt 0.5% will happen though...
Anyway, selling USD/JPY has been relentless since yesterday. Do the sellers perhaps have insider information? Well, volatility is welcome, though.
From the morning level, USD/JPY is likely to drop about 1 yen 10 sen as it passes to the overseas session.
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points (my memo).
● Movements near the London market open at 16:00
● Movements after the US initial jobless claims and trade balance release at 21:30
● Movements near the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the US ISM Non-Manufacturing Index release at 23:00

Other notes…
・At 21:30, remarks by Fed Governor Daly
・Be cautious of headlines related to FX intervention
・Be cautious of headlines related to Middle East tensions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will likely target moves near each market open, and after 21:30 (US jobless claims, trade balance) and 23:00 (US ISM Non-Manufacturing Index) release moves. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” following the theory should be fine. Also, Mr. Waller will speak.
If you’re aiming for short positions with the “15-minute scalping strategy,” wait for a slight pullback to form a sell zone around 158.00–158.10, as the 15-minute chart now presents a longer-horizon opportunity.
With that, overseas time is about to start!
Scalping often seems to offer 24-hour opportunities because the potential profit per trade is small, but that is not the case. By targeting times with higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I aim for are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 US summer time / 17:00 US winter time)
・New York market open time (22:00 US summer time / 23:00 US winter time)
Even immediately after US indicators/events releases, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the first few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to always enter after spreads return to normal levels.
Please check the US indicators/event schedule in advance on your broker’s website. Knowing when opportunities align will help you efficiently accumulate profits.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning right before US indicators/events release. If you go against the trend, you’ll be in trouble. You could be stopped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable, absolutely.
US indicators/event schedules can be checked on the websites of brokers and FX companies.
Of course there are other important points beyond these three, but I’ve spoken about what you should at minimum keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
