【8/31 Dollar/Yen Scalping Points】
Good work today! Alright, let’s do some USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, a summary of the Tokyo market today.
Currently, USD/JPY around 159.80. This morning it started around 160.05, and during Tokyo hours, despite rising expectations for a September rate hike in the US due to remarks by Fed Chair Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Conference, the trend leaned slightly toward dollar weakness. After 11:00 Japan time, it fell to around 159.70 (today’s Tokyo low).
Isn’t there still a sense of intervention vigilance above 160?
USD/JPY looks set to fall about 25 pips from morning levels as it transitions to overseas hours.
Today I expect movement influenced by Powell’s remarks at Jackson Hole, but London is closed for the holiday; the main action starts in New York time before long.
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points (my personal notes).
● Movements around 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)

Other notes …
・G7 and G20 meetings; headlines to watch
・Watch headlines related to Middle East tensions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping strategy” targets moves around the New York market open since London is closed. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” if you handle it according to the theory, there should be no problem. There aren’t any planned major data releases, but there is hope for movement following Powell’s remarks at Jackson Hole.
Also, if you’re aiming for short positions with the “15-minute scalping strategy,” wait for a slight pullback and be ready to sell around the 160 level.
With that, overseas time is about to begin!
Scalping tends to be perceived as having small target ranges, implying 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The timeframes I focus on are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (US daylight time 16:00– / US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (US daylight time 22:00– / US standard time 23:00–)
Even immediately after US data releases, volatility rises and opportunities multiply. However, in the minutes right after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after they return to normal spreads.
Always check the US data and event calendar in advance. Knowing when opportunities can come helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning right before US data or event releases. If the market moves against you, you can’t stop the loss quickly. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
US data and event schedules can be checked on each brokerage or FX provider’s website.
Of course there are many other points besides these three, but I’ve talked about the minimum essentials you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
