[Aug 28 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points]
Thanks for your hard work! Alright, let's do some USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo-time overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 159.45. This morning it started around 159.40, but during Tokyo time it remained cautious ahead of Mr. Powell’s (FOMC chair) speech at the Jackson Hole Conference, leading to a subdued, range-bound move. As expected.
Mr. Powell’s speech is at 23:00 tonight. Let’s hope it marks the end of the summer dull market!
The USD/JPY is likely to transition to overseas time at roughly the same level as the morning.
Mr. Powell has been negative about forward guidance. He has stated keeping a distance from the market, so there might be little to no hint in tonight’s speech. On the contrary, that could spark expectations and increase volatility.
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points (my notes).
• Movements around the 16:00 London market open
• Movements around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
• Movements after the 23:00 “Powell’s speech”
—
Other notes…
• Powell’s speech at 23:00
• Be careful of headlines related to Middle East tensions
—
Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target movements around market opens and movements after the 23:00 “Powell’s speech.” For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” sticking to the theory should be fine.
Also, if you’re aiming for shorts with the “15-minute scalping strategy,” wait for a slight pullback to around 159.50 to sell. There could be position-adjusting selling before the 23:00 “Powell speech.”
With that, overseas trading is about to begin!
Because scalping targets small profit margins, it is easy to think there are always 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with relatively higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time windows I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
• London market open time (16:00 local time in US DST / 17:00 in US standard time)
• New York market open time (22:00 in US DST / 23:00 in US standard time)
After a US data release or event, volatility often increases and opportunities arise. However, in the first few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so it is essential to wait for spreads to return to normal before entering trades.
Always check the US data and event calendar in advance. Knowing when opportunities may arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US data or events. If you go against it, losses can be instantaneous. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
US data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of brokerages and FX providers.
Of course, there are other points as well, but I’ve discussed the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.

Actually, one of my trading methods, the “15-minute bar scalping,” is fully公開 for free. I hope it helps, even a little. (Completely free, by the way.)

Additionally, on the following page I also publish my main trading method, the “1-minute chart scalping,” so if you’re interested please check it out. (Sorry… this one is paid.)
