【8/19 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 159.40. This morning it started around 159.60, but during Tokyo time there was slight USD selling, and after 11:30 Japan time it fell to around 159.30.
However, due to the uncertain outlook of Middle East tensions, safe-haven dollar buying is supporting prices, so selling hasn’t continued easily.
USD/JPY is likely to drop about 20 pips from the morning level as it transitions into overseas hours.
This evening, the U.S. FOMC minutes release is scheduled. With global interest rates rising and concerns about inflation and fiscal deterioration, U.S. monetary policy is highly watched.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around 16:00 London market open
● Movements after the 21:30 U.S. housing starts release
● Movements near the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the 27:00 U.S. FOMC minutes release

Other notes..
・Be aware of headlines related to U.S.-Japan coordinated intervention
・Be aware of headlines related to Middle East tensions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around each market open, plus the late-night move after the 27:00 U.S. FOMC minutes release. For users of the “1-minute scalp club,” handling as usual should be fine. And if price breaks above 160 after the FOMC minutes, continue to stay cautious about further intervention.
Also, the “15-minute chart scalping” for short-only strategies is heavy on the upside tonight while awaiting the U.S. FOMC minutes, so trying it could be worth it. Entry point would be waiting for a slight pullback to sell around the 159 mid-level. Aiming to take profits in small increments.
Now, the overseas session will start shortly!
Scalping tends to seem like there are constant 24-hour opportunities because the potential profit per trade is small, but that is not the case. Targeting periods with relatively high volatility greatly lowers trading difficulty.
The time frames I target are around the London open and around the New York open.
・London open time (16:00 during US daylight time / 17:00 during US standard time)
・New York open time (22:00 during US daylight time / 23:00 during US standard time)
Even immediately after U.S. indicators or events, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the first few minutes after a release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to always enter after spreads return to normal.
Please check the U.S. indicators and events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, positioning immediately before U.S. indicators or events is absolutely to be avoided. If you go the wrong way, you’ll be wiped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable.
U.S. indicators and events schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage or FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points besides these three, but I’ve discussed the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
