【8/18 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Thanks for your hard work! Now, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo time overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 159.50. This morning USD/JPY started around 159.35, and during Tokyo time it stayed range-bound with a slight tilt toward dollar buying as the session progressed.
With Middle East risks in focus, crude oil prices rose, creating a situation where dollar buying is easier amid tensions.
USD/JPY is likely to hand over to overseas time at roughly the same morning level.
We have returned to the end-July level when coordinated intervention between the US and Japan occurred… In the end, there hasn’t been follow-up intervention up to now, but 160 yen is a psychological threshold that cannot be ignored. If it’s capped here, the range may become likely…
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movement around 16:00 London market open
● Movement after the 21:30 U.S. Housing Starts release
● Movement around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movement after the 23:00 U.S. Existing Home Sales Pending Release

Other notes…
・Be cautious of headlines related to US-Japan coordinated intervention
・Be cautious of headlines related to Middle East tensions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around each market open, with relatively low attention, but the movements after 21:30 “U.S. Housing Starts” and 23:00 “U.S. Existing Home Sales Pending” may be the key targets. For users of the “1-minute scalp club,” handling according to theory should be fine. Also, remain wary of follow-up intervention as we approach the 160 yen level.
Additionally, the short-only “15-minute chart scalping” is not in a market where participants are aggressively buying on the upside; however, due to prolonged Middle East risk, it’s solid and not a situation to force positions. Tonight I plan to focus firmly on “1-minute scalping.”
Now, the overseas session will begin shortly!
Due to the small profit targets in scalping, one might think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. By targeting periods with relatively high volatility, you can dramatically reduce trading difficulty.
The timeframes I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (14:00- (US DST) / 15:00- (US standard time))
・New York market open time (22:00- (US DST) / 23:00- (US standard time))
Volatility remains high and opportunities arise right after major US data/events. However, in the minutes immediately after announcements the spread can widen, so the rule is to trade only after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the US data/event schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities come allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, positioning right before US data/events should be avoided at all costs. If you go against it, losses can be instant. Careless mistakes are unacceptable.
US data/event schedules can be checked on the websites of each securities/FX broker.
Of course, there are various other points as well, but I’ve discussed the essential points you should at least know when scalping USD/JPY.
