The whole is superior to the sum of its parts
The other day,by a casual trigger,
I looked at past questions from the 2025 Common Entrance Examination.
There was an interesting phrase in the English questions, so I’ll introduce it.
”The whole is greater than the sum of the parts."
It is said, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
In other words, it’s like 1 + 1 becomes more than 2.
Taking thisas a given, I formed a certain hypothesis.
Try mixing Buy Only trades with Sell Only trades.
If the scores of trading alone are positive,
wouldn’t blending the two yield ancillary advantages?
— Please humor me in this convenient fantasy.
First, as a prerequisite.
Focus on the characteristics of currency pairs.
The well-known regression tendency of EURGBP.
It tends to stay within a range, and
I’ve heard many traders who favor loop-type trades use it as well.
I quickly created my own EA.
The indicator I employ is
simplyNaomi Trendalone.
The take-profit is set at 120 pips※as the baseline.
The lot size is fixed at 0.1 Lot, and I do not add more.
Initial capital starts at 500,000 yen.
※This 120 pips optimization would trap you in a hell of debt-management, so I don’t do it.
① Buy Only
② Sell Only
③ Buy + Sell
I tested these three patterns.
The period from 2021 onward, up to my birthday on August 9, 2026※.
※Not particularly important.
① Result:
PF=1.69/RF=1.11
Pretty ordinary.
During the run, there is a negative spike in usable margin,
but since the memory on the bar graph doesn’t exceed 10%, it isn’t a significant drawdown.
→ In FX, this sensitivity is very important.
② Result:
PF=2.56/RF=2.37
Quite good.
Now, up to here is the preliminaries.
From here, the main test begins.
What happens if I run ① and ② in parallel?
③ Result:
PF=2.04/RF=4.38
The Recovery Factor (RF) improved.
This meansthat the recovery from losses occurs faster.
In fact, when looking at the asset curve, the drawdown from the green line has disappeared.
Also, the Sharpe ratio has slightly improved.
The Sharpe ratio measures
“how efficiently you earned return for the risk taken”
as an indicator.
In other words, most importantly,
even though the trades doubled,
the amount of margin used did not change.
In other words,“capital efficiency is good.”.
In reality, starting with 500,000 yen, after five and a half years it has become 1,200,000 yen.
Looking at the margin maintenance ratio,
there is still plenty of room to increase the lot size,
so in practice, another roughly three times expansion would be possible.
That said, the opponent is FX.
Because you never know what will happen along the way,
withdraw profits regularly
and start the same kind of trading in another account.
Thus, you can achieve calm and secure compounding trading.
So, the conclusion of this article.
“If you can perform an honest one-handed trade, starting a two-handed trade will make your skill soar.”
The university entrance exam is formidable after all.
Do modern high school students learn things like this…
When they become adults,
please,Naomi Trendwould be nice to use.
